Outbreak Company was great, it's sad that I haven't seen it mentioned at all on the forums since it finished.

Baccano! from the great anime year of 2007, which included great shows and movies such as Darker than Black, Evangelion 1.0, Paprika, Mushi-Shi, and other shows that now are never talked about

Scrapped Princess was a really solid fantasy adventure from BONES back in 2003. It it had been made in more recent years, where the animation could have matched the story, it would have been an exceptional show. As is, the story and characters are really excellent. I did write a review for it not long ago, and I definitely recommend it to anyone who likes the fantasy genre.

Black Rock Shooter is another one of those shows that just slipped through the cracks somewhere. It's not licensed in the US and it's only 8 episodes long, but it's an intense experience. I swear I'm not just using this to link to my blog, but I do also have a review for BRS.

This final is kind of random and not extraordinary by any means, but for a 12 days I watched an episode before going to bed, and it was like drinking a cup of warm milk before crawling under the covers. The English title was Brighter Than the Dawning Blue (on Hulu). It's not an especially noteworthy series and it's pretty generic at times, but it was still a nice show to casually watch before going to sleep.

Kino's Journey (Kino no Tabi). An older (2003?) one I've only seen mentioned a few times. It's pretty cebereal, in that it is slow-paced and generally not action oriented. The colors are a bit muted, but it kinda works. It's not on CR, but it is free on Amazon Prime.

Humanity Has Declined. This one's on CR, only a couple years old, but again I don't see it mentioned very much. Can't really explain it, it seems to be one of those genre-bending series.

There's others, most of them are older stuff, but for whatever reason, those two came to mind pretty quickly.

I rarely hear people talking about Psycho Pass... So I guess I'll pick that one.

Kaiji.

Yeah, these two are in my top 5 for a reason, though I'd say it seems like Psycho Pass is much more discussed considering its renewal. That show had a great atmosphere, lovely artwork and OST, great characters, a solid plot, universe and sub-plots...it was totally well-rounded.

As for Kaiji, it really did strike me as different. Not only due to the fact that it manages to be super intense without traditional 'action' or having supernatural/futuristic elements that extricate most anime from 'real world' settings, but also because it's clever, and its contents can often resonate with you. Excellent soundtrack and use of artwork, not least due to the thick, heavy-set 'anti moe' tengu style in which most of the characters are repulsive beings in line with the show's themes, and contrary to the somewhat doll-like features found in most anime.
