I'm still finishing up Alternative (About 65+ hours in it probably), but after going through a lot of slow points in this novel, I can't help but agree with the hype that this is one of the most EPIC things that have come out of the Japanese entertainment.

The amount of detail in the story telling, and budget put into Alternative's quantity+quality of voice overs, artworks, etc. are mind blowing. This is a fantasy come true for me.

If you loved the recent Steins;Gate whole time traveling visual novel, you GOT to pick up Muv Luv .

You have to grind through Extra *sowy* and like I said, a lot of slow points even in the Alternative story, but it's all an incredibly worth it experience. Personally I felt that Unlimited was the most fast paced of the three and as good as it is, Alternative makes me wish that Anime and Manga experiences can feel this complete.

Well, it had always been something I wanted to play. To see for myself which was superior - Muv-Luv Alternative or Ever 17. Guessing the new hype thing to do is compare it to Steins; Gate which I always considered as a modern time travel story of it.

I may pick it up whenever I have a spare $100, thanks for reminding me though I had other import plans and haven't even thought of Muv-Luv in half a decade. Though adaptions are signs of popularity, would you say it can rival a game that simply cannot be animated for even that would reveal a spoiler? I just worry about these "slow parts" which I suffered through in many visual novels (E17 included) until I found a few that were amazing throughout. Epic moments trumps slow~~?

Your post is both exciting and troubling all at once as I am known to drop games/shows the moment I am bored and yet I like big twists, haha...

Muv Luv Alternative > Ever17. Not even close too. When Ever17 got slow, I wanted to take long breaks or stop playing it completely. When Muv Luv got slow, I got frustrated because I wanted to get to more good parts but I always remained glued to it.

I don't know what the current hype is and by hype I think you mean trend, but you'll find my comparison to make a lot of sense when you play it because Steins;Gate and Muv Luv are both based around the same multiverse/time travel theories; both VNs are ranked top 1 and 2 on VNDB (Muv Luv: A actually outranks S;G) respectively; and Steins;Gate was recently translated by a US company so that also makes it relevant.

There's a lot more hype around Muv Luv: A than any other visual novel on the internet. So much that I find a lot of these blogs where people describe themselves being emotionally broken afterwards that they needed to channel it on a medium where they can get it out of their system. Some of them go into long poetic proses about it, kind of amusing. I usually avoid hypes but these were unique.

Muv Luv: A will do it's best to hit every human emotion and if you're easily affected by these things, good luck lasting through the whole thing because it's got a big story to tell. Everyone will find a reason to relate to this game.

But I don't even think it's available to buy in English yet. Unless you speak Japanese, you can download the fan translated version online. You need to play in order of Extra Unlimited then Alternative.

Just get through Extra as fast as you can, playing the 2 main routes (Meiya and Sumika) to unlock Unlimited. You can skip through the god awful Lacrosse ARC by skipping every so often by holding down CTRL, reading just the main points to get an idea. And then play Meiya's route in Unlimited to get the backstory of Alternative.

Quite an old topic but I wanted to share with everyone (fan or not) that there is a great Kickstarter project with the backing of the license holder to translate the Visual Novels and more into English.

Please have a look here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/muvluv/muv-luv-a-pretty-sweet-visual-novel-series and back the project if interested!

Disclaimer: I'm a fan myself and not associated with the project in any way.

I very much do look forward to it getting onto steam. I knew sooner or later it would, so I'm going to make my first steam review a fortified orange juice joke.

I never truly "finished" Unlimited, so I'm looking forward to breeze through it and finish the Ayamine route.

Alternative was great, and the last three hours were some of the realistically over the top GAR masculinity pumped filled action moments I've had the pleasure of experiencing, ever.

If that .jpg is what I expect it to be, you might want to spoiler tag that...

It's actually a FAQ on the series. No plot/event spoilers that I saw, just information on how the games relate.

Side note: the game is actually pretty difficult to get running on Win8/10, and the Kickstarter is saying that the version they're releasing will be directly compatible, which is a big plus.

I've been through enough MLA threads by now to suspect every direct image link to be CHOMP. :') i'm cowardly so I couldn't click on it myself. Thank you for clarifying.

The Kickstarter campaign is going very well so far raising almost $588k and still has 3 weeks to go...

If the last stretch goal is achieved then it will be most complete English translation/localisation ever!

To all the fans out there, let's make it happen! Even $1 can make an impact! :)
