My dad owns like 200+ comic books and I started reading about X-men. He was so proud of me taking a liking to them that he would quiz me to see if I knew the whole X-men cast. I was like 7 back then.

During my younger years, I was rather snobbish about the fact that I read prose novels. I assumed that comics were only distributed in fragile pamphlets, and that they could only tell short stories about unambiguous heroes punching out sneering villains, and never permanently dying.

And then a friend lent me a hardcover copy of Elfquest volume one. It broke all my expectations. It was a fantasy story in which the sympathetic characters had flaws, the villains weren't caricatures, and that both could die. Its story arcs could last a while, and they did not end with a reset button being pressed. I learned a few months later that the series had been written and released as individual issues. However, I appreciated the collected anthologies, and liked that I didn't have to invest money in hard-to-find issues in order to read the story.

I always felt the use of pictures translates more information to the reader in the most efficient way.

I remember having the chicken pox. My Dad, on his way home from work picked me up some comics and he and mom used them to help teach me to read. I actually still have them. Casper the Friendly Ghost, Wendy, Hot Stuff, Richie Rich, Scooby Doo, Archie, Sabrina, Betty and Veronica and a few others. By the time I started first grade I graduated to superhero/super-villain comics. I haven't stopped reading them since although my tastes have changed greatly over the years.

I got into reading comics and manga through by dad who was a serious collector while I was growing up. Later on I continued reading them and now i'm the same as he was lol. But nowadays I only read comics that have a lot of depth to them... multiverses and huge worlds, tons of characters, etc.

As a kid I would pick up Green Lantern or Loony Tunes very irregularly, but it was after I watched the Hellboy movie and figured out that Hellboy is a comic that I started to really buy monthly comics. (Hellboy was my favorite movie when it came out). Been collecting Hellboy and B.P.R.D. and Abe Sapien ever since. I also collect others but those three I will never take off my pull list

I grew up around X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Batman movies/tv series. My Dad's a huge nerd about almost everything. One year he bought me a Simpson's Halloween comic, and then I started buying my own from then on.

My mom used to buy me Archie and Marvel comics even before I could read.
She'd read me the stories to bed. :)
Good times.

The X-men and Spiderman cartoons blew up and was all anyone cared about when I was a kid. That was that, I had stacks of bronze age books I was getting out of dollar bins everywhere with my allowance.

I grew up on them, my uncle passed down boxes full when I was a kid. I've read tons but Doctor Strange is my favourite.
