What are your personal opinions on the holiday know as Mothers Day?

How do you feel about your mother?

Love her to bits.. Hell, I go out of my way just to stop by the store she works in and bother her or ask her if she needs food or something.

Does my mentality of Mother's Day not being a necessary holiday mean I don't like my mother or have issues with her?

I think it's cute. Necessary? No. I often have to be reminded of the date, even. I don't mind skipping it, and so does my mother. It's not like anyone is getting their arm twisted to go out and buy something expensive, or anything. Acting like commercialism is forcing people to do anything is a sorry excuse to throw out personal responsibility. Me? I'm cooking her breakfast in bed; eggs over easy, potato latkes, chocolate milk, and a muffin.

1. Is there a foreign version of the holiday in other countries?

Yes, though I don't know any names, and I don't care to look.

2. Have you ever gotten your mother something for Mothers Day?

Yes. I don't remember what all I've gotten over the years, but always small things.

3. Is there any point in having such a holiday?

Just a day of recognition, and for companies to make money (sad, but true). Not much of a point, but a point, nonetheless.

4. Are you a mother yourself? Have your children ever given you something special on that day?

No, I'm not a mother.

I see the idea of setting aside one specific day a year to "celebrate" so to speak the love towards one's mother is rather stupid.. It's as stupid as Father's Day and Grandparent's Day, Showing you love and respect your parents etc should be done ALL year

It's turned into kind of a weird day for me, considering my mom passed away exactly 2 years ago on May 1st. Her birthday and my parents' anniversary are during this month too. I don't even have a grandmother anymore, now. I think we should celebrate our moms, but instead of one day a year why not the rest of the time? They do a lot for us. There are some that are abusive, but there are others who can be 'mother figures' who aren't. They deserve credit too.

Another note on this is my dad's trans. Male to female. And, I know it can be hard for her in general, because I don't really consider her my mom. I had one. I found out my dad was trans about 4 or 5 years ago, so it's not like I knew my entire life. She understands this, and generally doesn't make a big deal out of it and is more than fine to be considered 'Dad' (although, we're trying to find a better parent figure term to refer to), but I think it's a weird day for her as well. I tend to call her parent or by her actual name when we're out at the grocery store and/or with people we don't know. Even for official records I've tried to refer to her as 'parent'. (They tend to argue with me, though.) Which is what she is. I thought why not reclaim Mother's Day and Father's Day and have it as Parents Day? This way everyone can be celebrated. None of this binary stuff, and we could still celebrate on those 2 days.

I love you, mummy. You are best my friend. You are my mummy. You are my best cook. You are my best clothes washer and dryer, and you are my mummy. Thank you for always being a good mummy.

The holiday is on May 11 which is a Sunday. <- Should be 2nd Sunday of May. May 11th doesn't always fall on Sundays.. sorry just saying... Explain everything else in great detail.

1. Is there a foreign version of the holiday in other countries? Not sure, but from where I came from, we just celebrate it as if it's my mom's birthday all over again... with less grand parties. Lunch and dinner is the usual thing to do.

2. Have you ever gotten your mother something for Mothers Day? Yeah, We usually get a card for and there's always either a lunch or dinner. But If I have enough money, I buy her stuff she likes. ^_^v

3. Is there any point in having such a holiday? Define Holiday? No, Not really necessary, but it's one day you can freely appreciate and tell the whole world that you love your mom.

4. Are you a mother yourself? Have your children ever given you something special on that day? Nope, Nah.
