There aren't many bad MMOs in my opinion, but I may say that due to the fact that I just love the genre. WoW, GW2, SWTOR, ESO, EQ, FFXIV; I've played the hell out of them all and progressively raided in each (I'm a bit of an elitist; if you blow ass, I'm going to heckle you). Right now I'm really into ESO and I can say that it's really fun, crafting matters (maybe a bit too much), leveling doesn't feel too tedious, and it's really nice to have such a huge amount of build diversity. Only major problem is that it launched without much of an endgame, but that's being remedied by the first content patch. Overall, a great game.

SWTOR was really really fun for a while. I think the endgame content could be a little better, but the stories are soooo well done in that game.

One I really like is APB: Reloaded, it's extremely fun. You can be a cop or criminal and it's constant pvp, real fast paced too which is good.

But if that's not your style, you still have WoW, FFXIV, Tera. Oh and stay away from SWTOR.

Everquest 2 and Phantasy Star Online 2.

I really liked the Elder Scrolls Online beta also.

2 years ago, I would have said RuneScape. 4 years ago, I would have said Maplestory.

Uh... LaTale? I dunno, closest thing to a "good" MMO these days.

I bounce between DCUO and Elder Scrolls online. I have a good amount of friends on DCUO which keeps me playing it and just kinda trying out ESO. It's pretty fun but don't know anyone.

It funny because heroic modes in WoW are known to be way harder than Vanilla. Vanilla was hard because you needed 40 people to cooperate but it turned into a cluster fuck. Also BC was actually a really great Xpac skill wise. Sunwell was crazy!

Why not get in on the Chinese open beta? You're on the West Coast so I imagine you'd get much better ping than I do. If you find the right server it's hardly noticeable.

I haven't played any MMOs in forever, but when I did I used to play Mabinogi, Ragnarok, Rumble Fighter, Grand Chase, Dream of Mirror, and probably several others that no longer exist (I don't know if some of those even exist anymore..) however, the longest one I ever played was MapleStory, coming in at about 4 years of my life. xD I started playing it right around when I first got a computer, and searching youtube and finding anime on it came along not that far afterwards, so I like it just for the fact that it gave me my current hobby. xD
I agree with several people, though, in that I probably quit MMOs because I hate talking to/playing with strangers on them. I somehow made tons of friends on my first MMO, Maple, but games afterward I would only have my sister playing or one other friend and I ended up quitting all of those games, as well as Maple after all of the friends I made quit (since I wouldn't talk to strangers to replace the friends I was losing xD).

Currently waiting for ArcheAge. Beta comes out in June I think. It'll cost like 50$ but I'm sure it's well worth it.
