I honestly didn't like it. The intertwining stories and characters just left me confused and made me wonder exactly how and why each part is even relevant to the main plot. This is one of the rare polarizing animes among my friends. A couple say they hate it, and other say they love it and its genius and its original. im in the former, though i wouldnt say I would go as far as to say i hate it.

I'm not sure there is a main plot, we just learn more about the characters through each story, and all those stories and characters are interwoven--not into a bigger story, really, but into a more comprehensive picture of the setting.

It's like a cycle of world building and character development that then generates more stories, which gives us more world building and more character development; the characters are just the connecting tissue instead of a main plot.

It's interesting to have so many interconnected stories where each person is basically their own story's protagonist.

That's about the best explanation of DRRR I've ever seen. Props.

This is the reason why I like DRRR so much. Because it isn't straightforward, and it utilizes a more creative, loose form of storytelling that you don't often see. It's like watching a really weird documentary where they interview a bunch of people and they all give individual accounts that don't create a chorological story, but more of an understanding of their community.

Durarara does have some semblance of a plot, though. It's just very loosely constructed, and told through a multitude of perspectives, kinda like people explaining a collective history.

My friends and I do Anime Reviews on YouTube, and our next one is Durarara!, and I've started watching it these past few days. Im currently on episode 6 (i think), and thus far it seems like just a bunch of random occurrences that hardly link together.

Im wondering if this is going to be the pace of the whole show, or if it picks up, and when?

If anyone is interested in our reviews, we have a group on CR

Thanks to anyone who gives their input

I remember Durarara starting out a bit slow, but after it picked up I loved it. Easily in my top 5 favorite anime (out of about 120 total) It's also getting a 2nd season soon.

Each character has their own story. Sometimes it would focus on one character and then quickly switch to another. This can sometimes get confusing as keeping up with so many characters is hard to fulfill. The overall plot was enjoyable aside from the whole character switching thing. I think it has a nice art style and animation. It also has a great first opening. I would give it a 8/10

It really isn't very good lol. I NEVER understood the hype to that show. You get to know a lot of characters in a different style than you're used to, but you never really learn that much. There is very little to learn about all the characters. If you like ALL the characters, that's fine. However there would be some characters I really wanted to know more about but the episode would randomly be about someone I didn't care about at all. It's hard to explain unless you watch it. Baccano has a similar style but the story is A LOT more intriguing than this one I believe.

Celty's side of the story was interesting, but all and all you don't spend much time with her.
Heiwajima was awesome but you don't see very much of him either.
Same goes for Orihara

As for those kids and their stupid gang war? Yeah, I could give a shit less.

I understand that everything that happens in the show ties into one main story plot, but the main story plot is lame as hell. It's just a gang war. I'll go watch gun grave for better gang wars.

Sorry, the hype of this show just never made sense to me.

I would personally say watching is a waste of time.

If you want a story of this style but much better for the love of god, just watch Baccano. Plus that's just like 13 episodes or something, so you don't need to sit through the slow start drrr has. Everybody wins.

I apparently need to get further into Baccano, 4-5 episodes in I'm still bored to tears.

I don't get the hype for it so far, but I guess I should finish it first.

If you were expecting everything in Durarara!! to fall into a single story like it does in Baccano though, I don't think that ever happens (it at least didn't in the anime). They're all separate arcs, some just share more characters than others.

Yes it's worth watching. It gets points for trying to be unique, but for me it suffers in the writing a bit. I was hoping it would either be a deep character study, or a cleverly convoluted story with a payoff. It tried.
