Well, my mom passed away 2 years ago, so couldn't do anything with her. So, instead my dad and I went out for ice cream. We were going to go to a huge local park/museum, but they were closing in a few minutes by the time we got there. So, we went to the market. Later, Dad made a quail dish. If I had it before, it was an awfully long time ago, because I didn't remember it. It was pretty good.

When Mom was with us, I'd give her a handmade card. Dad would usually give her flowers and her favorite cologne. We would go out to eat for either a brunch or dinner. Sometimes we'd go to the movie theater, an art show, go to antique shops, and basically wherever else she wanted to go. It was fun, and I do have good memories of it.

I cleaned the whole house because my mom was stomping around and yelling about it.

Ugh, the feels. So cute My condolences...

We took my mom to a nearby flower field. Afterwards we sat on the beach for a few hours until the sun set. Last event of the day was bringing her to a fancy restaurant but because we're not very wealthy she didn't have the heart to go through the double doors. Felt like a knife in my heart but whatever makes her happy.

Happy Mother's Day everyone!

Thanks S4869hu. This year I didn't really do anything. Dad ate brunch with a friend, but I just stayed home. I'm feeling weirder and weirder about Mother's Day. My dad's trans, male to female, and since I didn't know when I was little, to me I only had one mom. Dad says she's cool with me still calling her dad, but it's getting awkward. (I normally say 'parent' or her 'name' when we're with people we don't know...) People keep referring to her as my mom in conversation... This makes a bit of problem for Father's Day, too. The other side of this is seeing all the 'I love you Mom!' stuff all over places like facebook. Kind of reminds me about how mine's not here anymore. I'm cool with these threads, they're different. You can share what you used to do, at least. Dad did make beef stew meat with peas and sweet peppers cooked in a red wine simmer sauce, and put it over pasta for dinner. That felt special, too.

I already sent my mom a card and some money, I called her today and her sister too, (she is my Godmother.)

I would have liked to take her out for lunch or brunch but I am a little broke at the moment and I will probably go up to see my folks later this month and then treat them.

We used to go to brunches but they have been getting to be rather expensive and we don't eat as much as we used to... not much sense to blow $30 a person for what amounts to one trip through a mediocre buffet... Especially since my mom is happy when I bake a pizza for her. It is something she doesn't get to have very often. Actually she is really happy when I do any of the cooking for her. My father is quite the same way. They are both almost 90 years old so they appreciate most anything that lightens their burdens.

I am proud of my parents. They helped start several churches and have done a lot of things for their communities they have lived in. My mom still does alterations for people in the senior housing complex they live in and last year she was making little quilts for the underprivileged kids in the daycare next door to the complex.

I guess I'm "tooting the horn" for my mom too.

Happy Mother's day.
Remember she's probably done a lot of work for you when you weren't looking... She deserves her own day, just for being a mom.

For Mother's Day I spent most of the day with my mother and a few other family members/close friends. We had a few drinks at a bar. It was fun

If I was close to home I would've taken my mom out for lunch or something, but since I'm a solid 2000 miles away I just did what I've been doing for the past 4 years - got her a massage appointment and gave my sister who's currently still living at home some extra $$$ to take my mom out.
