Like Gal Force, Dirty Pair, the Bubblegum Crisis and Lodoss War. I wouldn't ever want to see them remade though. Their charm comes from being perfect artifacts of their time. The washed out colors, glamour fashion and big hair all fuel the nostalgia.

Rurouni Kenshin is one of the best 90s Shonen series. Especially the manga. Though the anime is fantastic for the first two seasons (everything after the Kyoto Arc is really crappy Filler, sadly... No Jinchuu Arc animation... )

Cowboy Bebop is just the best overall. Then you have stuff like Gundams, YuYu Hakusho, and quite a few others.

Hokuto No Ken-Without Kenshiro there would never be DBZ. He pretty much paved the way for most shonen manga/anime

Seeing the responses in this thread brings me happiness. Almost all of these series are among my long-term favorites.

*adds a vote for the Ah, My Goddess! and Tenchi Muyo OAVs from back in the day*

And Irresponsible Captain Tylor. Everybody should watch that series, IMO.

Space Battleship Yamato (technically the '70's but it's had many continuations)
Bubblegum Crisis
Ranma 1/2
Plastic Little
Battle Angel Alita
Oh, oh! And Project A-ko. The implied daughter of Superman.

Now if only Robot Carnival were available on DVD. *sigh*

Quite honestly, the only 90's anime I think deserves a (high-budget) remake is Revolutionary Girl Utena. The original anime was amazing, but I did think it suffered a bit from low-budget animation and too many re-used footage.

All of my other favorite 80's and 90's anime are fine the way they are; they don't need a remake.

No one has mentioned Angel's Egg by Mamoru Oshii yet, so I will. Although it's a movie not a TV series.

It'd be nice if it got a rerelease so it could properly melt another generation of too-inquisitive brains.

And now I'm imagining how gorgeous this movie would be on Blu-Ray. Someone should Kickstart this.
