Great concept poor execution

- I wouldn't say SAO was executed universally badly, as I did get really immersed with the episodes 1-3 and 5-6. That being said, when I rewatched it I was a bit frustrated that they didn't do things a bit differently. I mean even in these first few eps, there were inexplicable time-skips that give them a disjointed feel. Things gradually got less and less potent from there which is a real shame.

- I wouldn't say Galilei Donna's concept was that amazing, but it definitely had the potential to turn into a great adventure between three sisters. Unfortunately it only teased quality at the midpoint and never really reached it. Discussed it more in my review.

- Recently, My Sister is Unusual. I realize that I'm in the minority for thinking that this one had a great concept, but it could have been such fun if they had gone all out and not only dipped their toe in the mire and then skimped out for fear of drowning. The episodes were for the most part mediocrity defined.

Poor concept great execution

- Going to agree with Bakaneer about The Pet Girl of Sakurasou. Very basic premise and lots of people dismissed it off the bat because of that and the dubious title. But it worked out superbly.

- Girls und Panzer. It sounded way too silly, but the tank parts were great entertainment, and the non-tank parts were actually funny/pleasant. Either way it far exceeded the expectations I had when I heard the premise. Kinda got me into WoT too

- The Eccentric Family. Seriously, if someone described to me the premise of the show I'd probably be bored s***less, but this ended up becoming a solid favourite.

I thought that Sword Art Online, episodes 1-14 were great. Then the instant they leave the title game it just fell apart. It would have been much better if they had 24 episodes all inside sword art. When I watched the end of episode 14 I thought the next 10 episodes were all going to be about everyone getting back into the real world but they just went all crazy instead.

Later Episodes of Death Note also gave a great concept a poor turn in story I felt.

I think Melodies of Oblivion deserves a mention because at different points in the show it comes under different categories. Sometimes it had some great ideas but then wrecked them and other times it has some poor ideas and made them enjoyable. As a coherent show it was a little bit of a train wreck but it had moments that I thought in a coherent show would be great entertainment.

Good concept, bad execution:

Arpeggio of Blue Steel - Solid Sci-Fi concept, should have been great, ended up just meh. The manga is much better.

Bad concept, good execution

Non Non Biyori - Who would have thought that another SOL about cute schoolgirls doing cute schoolgirl things could be so well written and engaging.

Good concept, bad series

K

This had everything going for it to be an epic, Game of Thrones style series with clan wars and politics going and decent characters.

In reality: fantastic animation, but this screams execs throwing every anime trope at a wall and seeing what sticks: 'HOYAY? AWESOME...NOW LETS STICK IN A NAKED CAT GIRL FOR THE BOYS AND BIG TITS EVERYWHERE!'

And if I see more fanart of the skater boy asshole and the one guy with glasses, I'll scream. The best character was OnoD's character...though he got his ass kicked all the time.

SAO

.hack//sign did this better. Was okay the first ten episodes and had a potentially awesome female MC in Asuna until the Powers that be decided to fodderize her.

Bad Concept, good series:

Pet Girl of Sakurasou

Came in expecting ecchi fanservice(which I did get somewhat) and instead got a touching and sweet story that made me cry.

I pretty much agree with your choices.

I'll also add:
Good concept, bad series

Guilty Crown
It was entertaining, but the story is a shambles. It's a shame since it could have been so much better than merely entertaining.

C: The Money of Soul and Possibility Control
Very cool concept, but poorly explained. They started exploring the societal and economic impacts, but really chose to do hand waving instead. It ended up being more a battle anime than something deeper.

Bad Concept, good series:

Papa no Iukoto wo Kikinasai! (aka PapaKiki)

A friend really twisted my arm to force me to watch this. I expected a loli incest anime. Instead, I got a heartwarming show about family.

Undoubtedly, Sword Art Online would be the perfect example for this. I would go into detail about it, but I've grown tired of going over this awful anime. If you love it, great, but I certainly dislike it. It was a fun once-through, but the Alfheim Arc nearly killed me. In short, beautiful artwork can only take you so far if your story and character development suck some major...

I'm going with what I thought was a poor concept but with great execution.

School Days...

Yes, School Days. That one anime everyone loves.

Still think I'm joking? Well...

Yes, it had a bland concept. Boy likes girl, girl likes boy. Boy realises he likes this other girl. Commence drama. But I feel as if it is an incredibly underrated anime simply because it had an ending that wasn't entirely... conventional of harem anime. I, for one, thought it did what it meant to do perfectly. We're clearly not meant to find the main character likeable (Hell if I remember his name) during the last few episodes. And the harem anime I saw after had such a disgustingly cheesy ending, that in comparison the School Days ending was incredible.

It's an anime where you find yourself really hating the main characters, but continue to watch just to find out if they get their comeuppance. While the ending of School Days may have been... well... the ending of School Days, it was oddly fitting. Personally, I thought it was a great anime. I'll be damned if I watch it again, but it was a good anime.

And now for the disagreements.
