Thread title says it all plus the following questions: How much if it was on merchandise alone? Did it include food cost? Autographs/Photo Ops? Did you expect to spend the amount you did?

I ALWAYS budget myself. I tell myself before I ever set foot in the building that I have a budget of X dollars (which is usually like 100-200 or so).

It's easy to get carried away, especially when you are buying certain collector's items which can be pretty costly.

When I went to a con last year I believe I spent about 100 dollars on merch. I bought the complete series of Wolf's Rain, 2 shirts that were like 2 for $25 and an Eden of the East bag.

Food is another factor. I try to pack stuff with me to eat as a snack like trail mix, slim jims, etc. I also bring a bottle of water or two. I ate some chinese food in the food court though which was like $7.

Honestly, the best thing you can do is set a budget and force yourself to not go over it.

Man...conventions are expensive..not in terms of the tickets, just on how many things you want to get. I could easily spend about $500 if i wanted, but man...that's too much for me to spend on. I budget myself to spend about $100 honestly. Not including the food, as that varies. It's better to pack food though than to spend it. Especially when you have to find seating and no chairs or space to sit around for quite a while.

Like what Bluu said though, budget and force yourself not to go over. It's easy to lose track.

One year I really splurged.. this was back when legit DVD boxed sets were really expensive, I think I spent over $700 just on stuff in the dealer's room that con, with a pair of boxed sets being over $200/ea of that. Thankfully most DVDs/BDs (except the out-of-print ones) aren't nearly so bad these days, so my planned spending at the con is a lot lower.

At most cons I enforce my budget by only bringing pre-drawn cash, and only carrying portions of it while in the dealer's room to make sure I have some for every day I visit. I've never been burned by this policy - if I see something that's more than what I have on me, I can run back to my room for more, or use a card, but in that case I make sure to set aside equal cash and not use it to keep my budget balanced.

When I was first going to cons, I usually ran out of money, but after the first few where I was buying all the cool stuff I could never find before, I 1) had bought much of what I was missing, and 2) could start buying it online as well, which made it easier to get home anyway. I haven't been going to many cons lately, but when I do I still bring a few hundred to spend in the dealer's room, and I almost always have money left over at the end.

I also try to bring food with me to the cons, but plan on eating out at least twice, and ordering pizza in with a group at least once, that just seems to be how it happens with my friends. It usually ends up being an extra $30-70 for food stuffs total, I'd guess.

I've never gone to the photo op or autograph booths, so I'm not sure there.

It's usually the hotel that gets me the worst at a con. Even with a group, if you're staying at the con hotel, it can get expensive, often more than the plane tickets were to get there.

I usually spend $75 on hotel since i go with a group and stay at nice hotels. Ticket is usually $60 and Food and liquor cost i keep around $100. Vendor room i'll spend $100. Not bad for a full weekend. smart planning and budgeting go a long way.

Mmm...last con I went to..I stayed over at a buddy's house and that saved us about..$100+ on hotel and to get in the con was about..50$ for a 3 day pass. I try to limit myself to $100 when I go into the vendor room..everything is already super priced but I usually walk out with something I really want. But yeah..try to keep a budget when going in there, it's easy to overspend at these things.

When my husband, baby, and I went to Comicpalooza 2014 in Houston, we were fortunate that we could drive there and back each day for the 4 day weekend. I still spent roughly $200 on tickets for the weekend. I spent another $50 on snacks there. I spent another $50 on merch (I didn't particularly want many items b/c they wound up being on Cancellation List ) Gas bill was another $50 and parking garages another $50.

There's plenty of stuff that could easily skyrocket my expenditures, but if you mostly just want to go look and take home a souvenir or two, your budget while there should be about $100-$200 (depends on what merch you want to buy. Some autographs/pics cost an easy $60). The other costs will be in supplying your needs (sleep, eat, etc).

Hmm I went to 2 Conventions last year. First was Comi-Con and excluding hotel and travel (Thank god it's only a ferry ride ) I spent around $750 on Comic books, Autographs, Misc Merch, Some anime. The next was Anime Revolution in Vancouver and excluding travel and hotel I spent about $500. Got a few rare statues which is why the amount of money I spent was so high, Bluray's (you know how expensive those are) and misc Merch. Oh and a bit of art work from both cons.

on average with out gas, a place to stay, entry fee(s) 100$-150 to have a good time, not starve, buy at least 2 things you want + some impulse stuff and still have a lil cash in hand? depends on how much care free fun you want to have. Its best to limit yourself food and some seller / dealer rooms are overpriced but then again Theres stuff you just can't find that they have. the same with food $7 nachos or $3 soda / bottle water ( not ramune ) expensive but convenient for those who do not have transportation chinesse and pizza always an option if you have a room, usually the motel / hotels have bars or vending machine if they aren't empty...

anime matsuri 2009 not including import reactor car registration(50) or convention weekend pass(45) I think I dropped120$
10$ donation for charity on sunday
around $30 on drinks, snacks and food for the weekend
20$ in gas as I lived 27 miles from the woodlands
the rest on gundam models and manga

most ive spent
quake con in dallas 2007 close to $250 mostly because of gas and cheaping out and staying in a sponsored dirty slutty motel
$40 x 3 days in ratty ass motel
$50 my share in gas from hou to dal round trip and room to convention
the rest I have no idea little trinkets - entry fees - snacks - dvd box set commissioned art from artist that was there

least spent
classic game convention here in houston 40$ for weekend pass in besides gas maybe 20$ on posters and a trinket or two. all the games were on free play, not many items i wanted to buy

Well, I've only really gone to cons in Asia (Shanghai, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan) and mainly in Shanghai. Since there is no copyright, everything is dirt cheap and really well made, like super nice body pillows running for 40-60 bucks, and cosplays for 20-30 but the quality is much better then one's you'd find in the US.

Figurines are mostly knock-offs, but the real find is all the artbooks. China has a splurge of amazing artists, and you can meet them right there in person. I think I spend a good 200-400 dollars just on artbooks, since I'm a artist myself.

Well I usually end up spending around 300 bucks?.. I've only ever been to Otakuthon in Montreal so far. It's about a 1h ride from where I live so we usually just drive there and back everyday... So no hotel fees C: Then weekend passes are usually something around $50.. Food does get expensive, but we just grab a good breakfast in the car, bring some snacks and water.. Just in case you know, that this nice body pillow would be more appealing than yakisoba... *coughcough* But I don't really mind spending a bit of money on food either ( I'm not leaving the con till I've drank at least a bubble tea ahah ).. I guess we spend something around $30-$40 on food...When it comes to the dealer room..I'm the kind of person that will take a walk around the entire freaking hall and check out everything before I actually buy something (unless it's like THE THING I ABSOLUTELY SO FREAKINGLY HELLA NEED IN MY LIFE)..Once I'm done I just figure out the things I want the most and try to buy as much as I can with the budget I settled.. Which is around 200 bucks most of the time..I never get deceived with that technique ahah I recall finding something I really wanted and be too short on money to buy it. You're just like ''BUT IT'S RIGHT IN MY FACE.WHY GOD.WHY T_T ''

Last but not least.Cosplay..Oh god cosplay can get expensive ahah XD ... But I wouldn't include it with everything else, since I'm not gonna wear it exclusively at that con..Unless I buy it at said con, that is..But super shiny silky fabric is not my deal so yeah XD
