The few episodes I've seen of subbed Mirai Nikki and the clips I've seen shows why I'd watch it muted because the voices of Yuno and Yukii are annoying.

I think english dubs only become crappy when they don't fit the character. That's it, everything else still boils down to that, I also agree that some of the english voice actors are overused, which makes me think of another anime even though I'm watching something else.

There are good and bad choices for both languages. There are enough examples/complaints about English voice actors, so I'll skip that. But as an example of the other side... for the love of God, I cannot take seriously the Japanese voices for DBZ.

I'll watch subs all day. Have been. But I enjoy the dubs more because I can follow the story and characters better.

Lastly, none of us non-Japanese speakers can grasp all of the little idiosyncrasies in their voices. Yes, it's easy to match an emotional voice through context and blah blah. But there are countless jokes and sarcastic remarks and idioms that fly right over our heads, or hell, plenty don't even translate or have profoundly different meanings due to cultural differences. Even the subs aren't direct translations either. Subs are still impure! :P

Even though I said I wouldn't, I will, and final bit... How did they mess up saying Mikasa?!

Keep in mind too that as major DBZ was here in the US its even more so in Japan. No excuse that the company couldn't afford better talent can be used there.

I cannot do the English for Anime. Finding a good English version is like looking for a diamond in the rough. Cowboy Bebop was about it for me.

Goku's voice in DBZ is a rough out, but it's hard to deviate from a classic voice, even with the character's aging and the plot change from being a whimsical play on Saiyuki to aliens hellbent on intergalactic conquest.

My only beef with Japanese voice acting comes with comedic material/moments, where the comedic timing is off and/or the reactions are over-exaggerated. You realize how weak the writing is when you stumble on your first terrible "YAAHHH" or EHHH" of a series. Murder Princess came to mind first as an example of bad voice acting. Comedy is difficult for actors in general, since the timing and delivery of punchlines are foreign to them. Gintama's voice acting is great. Tentai Senshi Sunred is great, as it should be, since Vamp Shogun was voiced by a comedian (Louis Yamada LIII).

I thought the English version of Baccano was pretty widely considered to be superior to the Japanese version.
Also Goku's old lady voice is creepy in the Japanese DBZ.
This is more of a personal preference but I vastly prefer the script of the English dub of Yu Yu Hakusho to the Japanese dub. The English dub polished up a lot of the dialogue and and just made the show all around more entertaining.

You may be the first person on Earth to say that you hate Rie Kugimiya's voice

While I am not among that crowd, I have definitely seen others express dislike for it.

I believe in many cases they don't hate her voice per se, so much as they dislike many of the characters it is associated with, and thus it has an unpleasant association for them.

Are there really any other complaints other than they're "annoying" or "I just dislike so and so's voice"? Surely there's more than that.

Just kidding, sometime I have to turn down the volume even if the voice is the most soothing voice ever

If you want a good example of GOOD voice acting in a new animation look at RWBY. You can then gauge the other series against it.
