Are the seasons (Bake, Nise, Neko, mono) stories connected, or are each series their own story.

Also, crunchy only has 12 of 15 ep of bakemonogatari, are the last 3 important to the story? From what I saw they were ONA's so i figure they are important, but I'm not sure.

Thanks in advance.

They are connected. They are important. Probably you can find easily in the dark side (the anime and the light novels). I think wikipedia would be useful to know chronological order and stuff too if you get confused.

Nekomonagatari black, Bakemonagatari, nisemonagatari, then monagatari second season would be the order for the shows that are out and about to come on bluray or are already on bluray but the stories in those seasons are not necessarily in chronological order. I have bake, and neko black, have neko white on preorder and about to buy nise. Bakemonagatari is awesome it was the first series that was made but story wise it comes after neko black which was made later. Those three episodes in Bakemonagatari are incredibly important without them you won't really understand neko black, or white, and any of Tsubasa Hanekawa's story. The bluray of Bakemonagatari has character commentaries in Japanese by the voice actors, so the final episode has a Hanekawa and Araragi commentary and it is hilarious totally worth the Aniplex price. Imagine Hanekawa straddling Araragi face to face in a chair during an entire episode commentary with nonstop flirting that is the scenario of the commentary.

Release order is ideal, when they break chronology they still expect you to know what has happened in earlier releases in terms of who the characters are and what the bigger picture is. And if you can I'd recommend finding all that you can in BD quality, as the studio touches up all the episodes between their airing on TV and being released on DVD/BD.

Release order is:

Bakemonogatari (15 episodes).
Nisemonogatari (11 episodes).
Nekomonogatari: Kuro (4 episodes).
Monogatari 2nd Season (26 episodes).
Hanamonogatari (5 episodes, starting 5/31/2014).

FYI, while CR doesn't have Nekomonogatari Black, it is available legally via Daisuki:

Thus far, the only part of the series that isn't available for streaming are the three Bakemonogatari ONA episodes. Some of the flashbacks in the other series cover that, so while it would be useful to see them, I wouldn't flag them as vital.

I agree, with the release order. All the stories connect together, or questions arise from the various stories.
The author himself Nisionsin didn't write chronologically so he probably intended for his readers to view his stories in this manner.

(Oh and ONA's are important because you'll miss some important information about the characters)

Closed as duplicate (also somewhat a help thread--but this is such a common question it makes sense to keep one open). See:
