This for me would have to be the worst way to end any story. Being left with questions about the characters or missing links I find annoying. Or of course the "It was all a dream..." ending, if it's not done very well.

Deadman Wonderland is the worst anime ending that I've encountered so far. I really loved the concept of the anime but the ending I felt was really rushed and left a lot of loose ends. By the last episode I didn't really understand what was going on, but that might have just been me.

I must admit, the Deadman Wonderland anime ending wasn't great. In fact, the anime didn't really match the manga by the end. But if you really feel confused, then check out the manga. ITS MUCH BETTER. It's actually one of my FAVE mangas ever.

I knew the anime was developed from a manga series, but I've not read any of it. I've not read any manga in a while actually so it might rekindle my love for manga and answer my some questions I was left with from the anime. I'll be sure to check it out

Sorry for going off topic!

I don't really care about Soul Eater that much. I never had. It was just on Toonami for a long time that I got attached now it's got Blue Exorcist which rocks

Ah. You are missing out, though. So many more awesome things happen in the manga that it isn't even funny. Character development for the cast is also leagues superior. <.<

Don't care about character development. I rather watch some badass fights.

Really?

It made me really sad when I read that.

Well if it's characterization done well, if it's not done well then I'd just prefer action

Conflicting endings for different series in the same franchise, Tenchi Muyo being the case in point. To this day, I don't think it's ever been satisfactorily resolved.

Alternately, from about the same time period: Having an ending that could come about if just one damn thing would happen, but it never does. That would be Ah, My Goddess!, wherein our hero spends more time not getting laid in real-world reader terms than his entire life span.

Endings that leave unanswered questions that could've been crucial to the whole story.

If the ending didn't make any fucking sense. I'm looking @ you Magical Wars. Otherwise, I'd say big cliffhangers (unless a sequel has been announced).

For harem anime -
Not that a harem ending was the end, but the main character never ended up with a girl and he is running away from the whole flock of them chasing after him and then the credits run/screen blacks out. Even endings where the main character ends up with "the worst possible girl" are better than the "being chased to the sunset" endings.

To end it with the main character in an unbeatable situation with an enemy that just crushed all of their friends and they have a moment of inner strength and beat the $hit out of the "indestructible" villain. Like the last episode of Soul Eater where Maka's finishing move was punching the Death God in the face with a hope and love postcard. And on that same point, when the anime ends too early (makes up an ending and cuts the series short from the manga) or drags it all out to make more money with useless filler episodes.
