It feels like shows now are way worse, but that's only because I mostly only remember the old shows. In all reality I think there are the same number of good shows and just way more bad shows.

I'd say Anime is getting more prevalent.

It's not any better or worse than it ever was, but it's getting out to more people and with more people comes more opinions. In terms of artistic style some prefer the old ways of Anime like Gundam or Akira, things like that; while others prefer the more modern form we see in shows like Attack on Titan or Sword Art Online.

The stories really haven't changed much overall either. The characters change, the settings change, but the genre template behind them is generally still the same. That's not necessarily a bad thing though. The basic concept of an anime storyline has never been bad, and each show likes to take their own spin on it.

I'm just thrilled that anime is more readily available and is no longer being dumbed down in translation like it used to be.

Its all personal opinion. In my case I like how the animation has improved, but the story has dropped off the lamer end. In recent light though anime is getting better, of course there are those hidden gems that we all wish people knew more about. Overall: Anime is getting better, let time take its toll I guess.

Pretty much this. ^ I started questioning new anime quality a few months back but recent good ones have brought me back. The way I see it it's not like anime studios can pump out Dragon Ball Z cult status anime every year. I am a fan of fan service when it's done right and in a comedic fashion that is entertaining.

Alright I guess we can all agree that fan service is awesome when done right XD Not when its just blatantly thrown in there to get the audience's attention.

I think it is getting a bit worse, its definitely more sexual such as ecchi and less action packed adventure but I guess it changes with generations. But one thing is for sure, whatever you grow up with is what you will always think is better.

I think it depends on your interest. And maybe your age and gender.

If you are fanatic about high school..high school students and all the different situations they can be put in then anime is better. If you like lots of sexy females acting like nymphos...then anime is better.

But if you prefer more creativity, diversity and maturity, then anime has gotten worse.

Not so long ago there weren't nearly the number of anime per season as their are now. And for a while most anime were released as OAVs straight to retail. So yay for quantity but yeah, it means more shows to potentially miss the mark. But at least the industry is willing to take chances which is a major plus.

You may want to explore if anime in the past really had as much "creativity, diversity and maturity" as you think. (Just put in any season and year into the search box at the upper right):

Most people tend to have a rather filtered view of past anime.

I think they are about the same except the art is a lot better IMO than the 90's for sure.
