A question I'm sure that's been asked before, but seriously...where?

I'm a big Macross fan, and while yes, I know it isn't the same...still.

Considering that Bandai Entertainment closed its doors in the U.S. in 2012, unless Crunchyroll gets hold of old Gundam DVDs in one of its Deals of the Day, you are going to have a difficult time watching this series (legally). My recommendation: Go to Daisuki and look at their streaming offerings, which include several Gundam series, including Unicorn. (There is also the Gundam Official You Tube channel.)

But do be aware of one thing: Traditionally, death and loss are to Gundam what love triangles and singing are to Macross.

I haven't watched them but I was curious too after seeing this thread so I googled it.

Chronological Order:

MSG > 08th MS Team > 0080 > 0083 > Zeta > ZZ > CCA > Unicorn > F91 > Victory

Wing > Endless Waltz
SEED > Destiny
OO > AotT

Just start at the very beginning, with the original 1979 Mobile Suit Gundam, and go from there, like Zeta then ZZ then char's counter attack. The original trilogy lays the groundwork for everything in UC and the alternate timelines such as G, X, W, Turn A, Seed, 00, Age.

Ohhh this depends so much on what you want.

Let's start with some info:
Gundam is organized into seperate timelines so depending on which you watch you can get a new viewing experience(kinda)

UC(universal timeline): Longest of the timelines, and is packed with the most lore. so if you like to know how the gundams operate and other technical know-how this timeline will be good for you.

FC(future century): small timeline for the G-gundam series. Pretty average for gundams, it's basically Dbz x gundam

AC(after colony): this is the universe for wing gundam. Wing inspired a lot of things from future gundam series although fanboys/girls will debate that wing did it first and etc, there are more broader differences to the series I.e see the forest for the trees.

CA(cosmic era): Some events seem inspired by AC(as stated above) very similar feel to both shows. (on a philosophical level as well) the most beautiful sound tracks out of any gundam IMO.

AD(Anno Domini): The timeline for 00 gundam, this a very good timeline. and one I highly suggest if you want to get into gundam. This anime was very well executed and is a very enjoyable watch. very unique in terms of plot and content.

AG(advanced generation): Stay away from this. It wants to be good(it almost is) however, it suffers from bad pacing, and fimilar character motives. You can certainly watch it. But it wont do gundam justice if you started out here.

The series I most suggest is ether A. Gundam 00 or B Orginal MSG

*note Original MSG does suffer from aging since it was made a very long time ago, so if you don't like watching older stuff. Shy away from this, but there will be Gundam Origin coming out that will retell this story in HD. (so don't worry)

Anyways best of luck ^.^

You can watch Gundam Seed on Youtube, the entire series. The sound track is very good too. Lots of crying though, and I mean LOTS of crying, not you but the characters, and sometimes its more funny than sad. I mean, they start crying and you can't help but think WUT with a laugh.

Gundam Wing is more dated in animation, but the plot is good.

Gundam 00 will give you the feels. Better than Wing IMO. Good place to start.

If dated animation doesn't bother you, absolutely start with Gundam 79' and just watch the UC series in order to start. Chronologically that would be

Mobile Suit Gundam > Zeta Gundam > Double Zeta (weakest of the UC series but not as bad as most seem to think imo) > Chars Counterattack (movie) > F91 > Victory.

Technically Unicorn comes chronologically before F91, but it's still basically brand new and hasn't been finished yet (there is still one more movie to go). It is however fantastic so far, and has some amazing animation so it's definitely worth watching.

Gundam Wing and Wing Endless Waltz are alright but they don't feel as grounded as the UC series. Never been a big fan of those personally but they aren't bad. They are a bit more romantic.

After the UC stuff the next thing I would recommend is probably 00 Gundam. It's more or less a better version of Gundam Wing. The movie is terrible though. It's easily the best of the non-UC Gundams I think, and it's fairly modern so also not a bad place to start if the animation of the older series gets to you. Can be watched legally on Youtube with some toy ads.

Gundam SEED is pretty good, I personally can't stand the animation style and the MC is infuriatingly obnoxious until a little after halfway through the series or so. SEED Destiny is terrible imo. SEED is a complete story on it's own so there's no need to watch Destiny unless you're curious. Can be watched legally on Youtube as well.

Turn-A is a weird one. I liked it, but it's very different from the rest of the franchise. Worth a go if you've exhausted the rest of the worthwhile series. I would recommend reading about it a bit before you go into it because the premise is a little whacky. Definitely would save this one for last.

Mind you for pretty much everything aside from Seed and 00 Gundam you're going to have to either buy the DVDs (which are not cheap, likely will need to import) or pirate. So that's something to consider.

As has been pointed out Bandai has a YouTube channel with several series available for free there.

I'm 13 episodes into it, and much of it thus far seems like they were trying to turn Gundam into a comedy, but failed.
