I wouldn't be surprised. Religion is one of the most referenced things there are.

Yura probably died the moment Pain used his Jutsu on him to turn him into a perfect clone of Itachi. I like to think of it like how the Edo Tensei works on the sacrifices. They die to turn into other people.

Also, yes. Naruto does appear to be Ninja Jesus. That was obvious the moment he beat Pain and converted him to Narutoism.

Wouldn't Naruto be closer to Shinto (Though I don't know very much about Shinto)

I know there is alot of references to Japanese mythology

One thing that does strike me is Naruto is a high powered Ninja that hasn't killed anyone and probably couldn't since its not in his nature.

Don't forget Kakuzu.

Even though there is blatantly obvious shinto lore that is central to the entire story, finding aspects of other religions wouldn't be surprising since many of the myths borrow from each others stories.

It may also not count, since Kakashi dealt the final blow with a Raikiri.

True, maybe I'm looking into this a bit too much...

I understand there are other religious factors that inspired some parts in the Naruto story, I was just trying to make a point

At first I thought you meant how he took the first heart out, but then I rechecked. I suppose I unintentionally forgot that part since it was less climactic than the Rasenshuriken.

Regrdless, he'll probably have less kills once (if) he becomes Hokage than the average Chunin.

Yeah, though I wonder if he'll be made to finally retake the chunin exams, or if he'll simply be bumped to chunin as a result of how unfair it would be to exam participants. Or maybe they'd create a special version of it for him? I admit that I'd find it annoying if he doesn't have to go through the ranks before becoming hokage, however quickly it may be.

At this point, I'm wondering if things such as the Chunin exams, Kages, Daimyos, etc. will remain unchanged once the war is over. Since there's been so much emphasis on the good that the Allied Shinobi Forces brought, I wouldn't be surprised if some sort of one world country is established. But that would mean so many chapters/episodes of "I'll become Hokage" will be meaningless to an extent. Plus Gaara made that request to Naruto about the sake.

well in that case, Kaguya would definitely be more suitable for the "god" position opposed to the sage of the six paths.
But even in that case, neither of them were the first humans or anything similar to such, they were just the first instances of almighty power really. (that the story has revealed thus far)

A person can easily make TONS of biblical references to Naruto, no doubt.
Specifically, concerning the comparison between Naruto and Jesus, I go as far as thinking they're one and the same.
That is, for example, Naruto is "the Jesus of the Shinobi World" much like Aslan (the Lion in the Chronicles of Naria) is "the Jesus of the world Naria".

My argument
I think it's reasonable to agree that Naruto is thought to be a messiah in his world.
The child of prophecy, I think, is the exact language used in the manga.
Hell, I will even compare Jiraya to John the Bapist; John was a teacher/mentor to Jesus much like Jiraya was to Naruto.
Moreover, Naruto is the symbol and the message of hope. Further, his chakra burns like the sun*.
Naruto can sense evil and he can harness the chakra of nature (sage mode) and of the elements (particularly, wind).

*People have argued that Christianity was derived from sun worshiping religions and that Jesus is a symbol for the sun (the "son" of God), humanity's source of light/energy. Cf: Zeitgeist: The Movie

Orochimaru is Loki.

Tsunade is Athena. =P

Naruto is Hercules.

Sasuke is Kratos.

Madara is Ares. (Madara by name only).

Sakura is a muse.

Onibrotonel is Goku.
