They don't care much. To them, animation is animation, though anime being Japanese grabs my stepdad's attention and he'll poke fun at that. He particularly favors Golden Age cartoons, so I see why my tastes can perturb him. Golden Age is vastly different from modern Western cartoons as it is, and the contrast to modern anime is even greater.

Hmm always wanted to ask something, so the figures are just kept and collected? Although I could say this to any collection item, I have always wonder where collection feeling comes from. Or is it to somewhat play with it? although no so much in the imaginative form back as a kid...is that one of the aspects?

The awesome part about figures is 2D coming to 3D. You get to look at characters you like, in any angle you want. They are costy but they are worth it for me.

Statue figures
The cheapest ones are game prize figures (around $20~35), about 6 inches tall.
The scale figures are usually very high quality. 1/8, 1/7, 1/6 ($70 ~ 200) 1/4 ($150~), very rarely 1/1 (costs like a decent used car)

Action figures
figma(around 12cm)/Nendoroid(around 10cm) (more or less than $40 if bought directly form Japan (Crunchyroll store sells them for around that price!)
Revoltech (around 14cm) - about the same price
Medicom (around 30cm) - more than $200
There's more brands but don't have time to mention them all

I guess my mom is just strict as fuck. Plus, Koreans are like anti-Japan. They don't know how good I am at Japanese. And OMFG they give me no privacy. On my resume and stuff, I could have wrote down that I speak 3 languages (3rd one Japanese) but my mom fucking sat next to me and watched me. I could have put down all the awesome stuff if she wasn't -_-. She'll prolly be like "How much anime did you watch to learn all that Japanese? You wasted so much time you could have used to study!"

Asian parents are the worst. They didn't let me go out and play with my friends, even in summer. (forcing me summer school) So I decided to watch animes as a way to forget about reality. And look what happened now. And then she's telling me to quit all the otaku stuff. Only thing asian parents want you to do is study so you can make a lot of money and they can retire

You just wrote my biography dude. I can completely relate to you, only my family is Chinese.

I didn't intentionally hide my otaku-ness, and I would have explained and told the truth if anyone actually found out, but they never did. I like the privacy, but it's interesting how oblivious my parents were considering anime and manga are what I "do" all day long. However, their limited knowledge about my hobbies and my interests is mostly my fault anyways. I almost never talk to them about anything, because it's hard to tell whether a topic is going to result in a lecture or an actual conversation.

I've been talking (mostly ranting) to them about anime and stuff more recently, so they found out. My mom hasn't said anything yet, so it's hard to say what her stance on it is. I just have to wait for her to bring it up against me in an argument to really know if she approves or not. My dad is the same way, only I think he accepts it more, but only if Anime doesn't interfere with my studies.

I showed the first few episodes of Reborn! to my little brother once, and he thought it was funny. However, his interest level wasn't high enough to spur him to want to watch more so I decided not to force him.

Well my family hasn't forced me to stop yet, so that's good I guess.

My mom thinks anime are interesting (mostly because some of her students watch it), and my dad teases me about it sometimes, but its lighthearted so I guess i'm pretty lucky.

If you'll pardon a little unsolicited advice: As soon as you can move into a place of your own, FYB, do it (IMO). Otherwise, you might be headed for a really unpleasant collision that you don't even know is coming.

As for myself, the family I have now is perfectly okay with this, since I married a fellow gamer (and anime / manga fan), and both of my kids are hardcore fans of their own stuff (one loves K-pop, the other loves British TV), so it's a live-and-let-live mentality in my home. As for my folks back in the day, well, I never really talked to them about my hobbies, they just knew I had them and let me do my own thing.

That's the right way to go about it, I think.

That's why I wanna marry an otaku chick. As long as she's like me, she doesn't even have to look that attractive (as long as she's not like an ogre ugly) Face can be changed with money and weight can be lost.

My ideal parter: A rich sadistic otaku girl
