That girl that said everything was better subtitled. She needs to watch FMA Brotherhood and Yu Yu Hakusho. Those are amazing English dubs.

My reaction to her comments was: as expected from a teenager who's likely never heard of Cowboy Bebop.

And to everyone complaining about the girl thinking it's like Pokemon, answer me this honestly: do you really expect all teens to know what anime is? Like it or not, anime is quite a niche medium.

My first guess would've been to say "Is this Digimon?"

It doesn't even remotely look like Pokemon...All american cartoons are actually Pokemon spin offs.

It was about what I expected. You had teens with no experience with anime, there were mainstream fans who watch the popular stuff and the one weeb girl. Honestly I wasn't really upset with what the non fans said sense i don't expect non fans to have much to say about anime (like I wouldn't have much to say about Game Of Thrones) but that weeb girl represents everything I hate about hardcore anime fans.

Oi! She does not represent us hardcore anime fans.

She does however perfectly represent the weeaboos.

I actually see some parallels between the Titans and Pokemon Trainers, and the Humans and Pokemon lol. I was thinking that it would be cool if someone made like an AMV to Guren no Yumiya with like smiley faced Pokemon Trainers trying to capture Pokemon and like Bulbasaurs using Vinewhips like the 3D Movement Gear.

There's a possibility that the person meant that in terms of Pokemon's popularity, I don't see a reason why anyone could compare Pokemon with Attack on Titan in terms of content and objective/subjective values. Pokemon was incredibly popular when it initially came out, still popular today too. That's just my take on what the person said though, I could be wrong, I just like to believe I see better in people ^^

I wonder why Attack On Titan is as popular as it is. Sure, it is a decent anime, but there is better out there.

Suspense, mystery, and action. It has a lot more of those than most animes do.

Monster for example does suspense and mystery much better, but doesn't have enough action for the masses.

What confounds me is SAO's popularity. I really cannot understand why SAO is so popular. I mean Magi, Hunter x Hunter, and Silver Spoon have much thicker plots, and while people admit they are good, they don't get nearly the hype that SAO gets. Attack on Titan is pretty much the only thing that rivals SAO in hype.

Pretty graphics and "original ideas"

I quote original ideas because .Hack did it first. Heck I could go so far in saying Hunter x Hunter did it first

Plus waifus, an MC with a bad personality, lolicons, SAO has all those things

Actually as far as having an entire community trapped in an MMO goes, that SAO did do it first. Then Log Horizon did it.

.hack only ever had one character trapped in an MMO SAO style, and that was Tsukasa in .hack//sign. As far as I remember no other character was trapped and conscious inside the MMO.

Greed Island was an entirely different type of animal. It wasn't an MMO but rather it was a portion of the real world with MMO rules, and they weren't necessarily trapped, they could leave.

Hell Attack on Titan is actually less original than SAO if you think about it. AoT is essentially a zombie movie, except with giant zombies. It's just that where AoT combined chocolate and peanut-butter, SAO made prime-rib into a hamburger.

The author said himself he was a big fan of the Muv-Luv series of games. So really, it's essentially Muv-Luv with giant naked people and a medieval European setting. I mean, duh he includes his own stuff to make his own, but the most basic structure (where he could the inspiration to make AoT in the first place) is Muv-Luv.

And, like with everything, they're both unoriginal because everything has already been done before in some form or another.

There are two animes that I actually do consider quite novel as far as plots go. Zegapain and Melody of Oblivion. I can't really say what the plot of Zegapain is without spoiling it, but I definitely have never seen it done before, then again it definitely might have been in some old sci-fi novel. As far as Melody of Oblivion goes now that was a good one, the plot was essentially trying to save a world that does not want to be saved, and that may actually be worse off if you did save it.

An Elders react would be much more interesting, IMO. I never really liked the Teen or Kids react ones.

So what you're telling me is you enjoyed those plots or?

What I meant by plots being done before was more or less the basic outline. Boy meets girl and falls in love -- and then some. Other elements added on top of that are most likely going to be inspired by something the creator(s) have experienced/etc. in life, so they draw from those things. In that sense, everything has been done before on different scales. If that makes any sense.

It's a bit difficult for me to describe.
