More like they cut the meat from the ones they showed in the anime. I remember there was a really good one in Volume 5 where Touma in about one paragraph, acknowledged the feelings directed at him from Index, denies any feelings towards her (in a romantic sense) and then states that the feelings are towards someone he considers dead (Touma pre-memory loss). Oh but don't worry they kept the comedy scene that followed after it... I freaking love you JC Staff.

Also while they're presented as monologues in the anime they're not in the LN. They're more the character thinking to himself and considering that the series is first person perspective its pretty standard for that format. The anime changed them into monologues cause like I said a lot of character development happens in these.... they still cut out a lot of the important stuff from them though.

Edit: And yes I'm judging by the anime. From what I hear the written versions might as well be a whole 'nother series for all the differences.

Yeah they kinda are. I like to compare the anime of Index to the Green Lantern movie, where everything (protagonist, side characters, plot, etc.) are incredibly meh but overall a decent flick, but do you really want that representing Green Lantern? I don't read too many comics but even I know that Green Lantern is leagues above what that movie was and fans should not be satisfied with that level of representation.

The anime just has way too much of JC Staff JC Staff-ing all over the series (includes but not limited to extending slice of life sequences, cutting from plot and character development, and having difficulty with fight scenes although they seem to have been getting better with that recently...). Though this doesn't surprise me... they were responsible for the most hated anime adaptation of all time after all.

I'm a weirdo but I like the slice-of-life sequences more than the action sequences.

Like I said above, if the whole show was about Saten and Uiharu living in the redonkulously unjust world they have to deal with, I'd like it about 50x as much.

That's fine I don't mind the extending of slice of life scenes... its when you start cutting from character and plot development that it starts getting under my skin.

Also, I said this the page before but, JUST Touma's school life would make a kickass slice of life anime.

So basically, index is written in first-person so we lost all of Touma's characterization.

That's good to know, because I want a third season in spite of him.

If they can get his character right, it would be a nice change of pace from the second season, where he only caused problems. (Imo)

Also, more slice of life. I like those parts.

Basically.

Like I said Touma is nothing special as a character but he is pretty good and as of the latest arc in the LN has had a awesome character arc so my liking for him is pretty high right now. If my guess is right they're probably going to try to wait on an Index III until they're sure they can adapt the entire arc as Index was entering its first major arc where the anime left off (to cover it they'll probably need around 30+ episodes if they keep to the pace that they were going previously)

I'm not arguing that the slice of life is bad, quite the contrary I do like it, what bothered me is that so much plot and characterization got cut while those scenes got extended and push comes to shove I'll choose those two over the extra slice of life.
