So, after updating to 1.03, the "cannot retrieve data" error is fixed, thankfully. However, now in its stead is a new sort of playback problem. Certain shows, specifically Nichijou and Poyo will not properly play. They keep skipping to the end no matter what I do. Specifically, to 22:37 for episode 1, 23:28 for episode 2, 23:38 for 18 (which is where I had left off on my current watch-through), and so on. Poyo skips to around 2:30.

Using L2 to manually rewind so far has been a crap shoot. I also tried taking them out of my queue and re-adding to no avail.

Now, I say certain anime because, at the very least, HxH and Gankutsuou aren't doing this to me. Am I alone in this bizarre error?

EDIT: This is for the PS3 app.

They should add an option on the menu that allows you to restart the entire episode optionally.

No, I'm having the same problem. You can clear your watched history on PC and all the episodes will start from the beginning. I hope they add an option to start episodes from the beginning.

Here's what happening.

I don't think it has anything to do with watched history, since I've watched Nichijou in its entirety multiple times through Crunchy. I wasn't having this problem until just today.

However, Kuroi's video shows exactly what I meant, so I'm glad it's not just me.

They added the "feature" to save your place in the video, but there needs to be a button to restart the video.
CR's dev team is just poorly managed. I'm pretty sure it's 1 or 2 guys just slapping code together without any real testing.
Anyone worth their salt wouldn't have added this without testing first.

Right now the only way to get around this is to start the episode and hold L2 to "rewind".
I swear CR must get its coders from Apple.

Nope it does have to do with what you've watched. I've tested it. It just started recording your watched times. And if you're at the end of the episode that's where it stops. It needs to reset once you hit the end of the show and there needs to be a start from the beginning button.

I have a feeling it's their ugly graphic user interface that's the root of all their problems.

Does L1/R1 not skip to the beginning/end of a current episode?

That was going to be my question actually, L1/R1 should be the buttons that reset to the beginning. Very interesting

----------

I actually just tested this and I think I'm starting to grasp the problem. Maybe it's because I don't let episodes run to the end that I'm not seeing the immediate boot into the next episode, but I do see the CR app attempting to find the time stamp for all episodes. It doesn't always work, which I found I've been thankful for. Its not really a feature that should have been implemented this widely anyway.

The app doesn't need to remember that I was at the end of every episode I've ever watched, it should just remember where I was on the latest episode watched of any specific series.

I don't know if it's a lot harder to implement this way, but it just strikes me as the right way to do it. The way it is now, I'm going to have to be doing a lot of rewinding every time I want to rewatch something. So not to sound ungrateful, because I'm sure someone worked on this, but it's one of those features I feel does more harm than good.

Anyway, congrats on getting the app back up guys! And sorry to join the bearers of bad news here, but I only do it because I believe in the greatness of the CR team!

Thinking more about it, if you guys made L1 reset to the beginning, while making a double tap of L1 switch episodes, it would probably fix a lot of this.

Just thought I'd throw in that Netflix did the same thing with their last update on the ps3 -- they REMOVED their start at beginning option for play which I find silly and annoying. If I started something part way but wasn't paying attention or watching it from the beginning with someone else, have to rewind. So the big guys make bad decisions too. The only benefit I think from what I'm hearing over crunchyroll is that it should recognize if you were close to the very end you probably finished watching it.

I think remembering where you left off on an episode is a good new feature for crunchyroll, just probably should have tested it out and implanted it better.
