Hiya!
(this is my first time posting, so I apologize if this has already been discussed)

I am taking care of my friends daughter over the next two weeks (she is 11). Her mom told me she has recently started watching anime with her friends. She asked me if I would spend some time with her over the next week(s) introducing her to some anime she would like. She is super shy and timid about asking for things so I figured I would gather up a few movies or shows that we could watch together :)

I tend to watch anime that may not be exactly...err be appropriate for someone her age...you know with all the violence and mature topics...she is pretty shy and young so I don't want to pick anything that may embarrass her lol and I am not sure her mother will ever forgive me if I traumatize her....

I am wondering; What anime (movies or shows) would you guys introduce to a kid?

Obviously I was thinking that the classics would be a safe bet:
Kiki's Delivery Service
Whisper of the Heart
Princess Mononoke
Howl's Moving Castle

etc

But I know there are so many of them so I would love to hear what you guys would suggest!

THANKS!!

The forum will come to the outburst when "that" anime is mentioned.

For a tween girl? I suppose shoujo animes I like are rather safe.
Maybe

Kaichou wa Maid-sama
Ouran Host Club
Fruits Basket
Arakawa Under the Bridge
Azumanga
I'd say Lucky Star, but 99% of that would probably go over her head.
Ghibli is like the Disney of Japan so pretty much any of that is good.

I haven't seen these but Shugo Chara and Chihayafuru seem to be popular among like everyone.
Naruto, Fairy Tail, and One Piece are good for anyone who likes Shounens. Hunter x Hunter is wonderful but it may have a minimum attention span requirement.
I never got into it but when I was in early Highschool everyone loved Inuyasha.

Boku no Pico is a pretty good adventure story, it has a lot of character development as well

I literally came in here for the express purpose of telling the OP to ignore anyone who said Boku no Pico.

That show is at meme-level in rec threads.

Well there are a few lol. Boku no Pico is definitely one.

Another is School Days. However, I recommend that any anime veteran who hasn't watched School Days watch it. I also recommend any sadist show school days to an unsuspecting casual.

Finally there is Yosuga no Sora, again I recommend this anime, or at lest the first two and last two episodes of it for the said people above.

Note do not show these animes to children.

You should apologize for making a 11 year old girl cry.
