So a long long time ago back when I was a wee tot at the ripe age of 12 I got my neighbor who was 10 at the time into Naruto. It was a great time, we read the weekly updates, watched the weekly episodes, and had hearty debates about what would happen next and if the anime actually portrayed the manga properly. Chats were great.

Heres where the problem starts. He dove in too deep. We all know not to be too open about our secret love of anime in public due to social ridicule. Especially during times like High School. This kid didn't do any sports and was too open about his anime lifestyle. He got picked on, ended up fat from not engaging in physical activity, and only sits around to read manga. Is it completely my fault for introducing the kid to the Otaku life? Anyone else ever have an issue like this?

*One day I went to his house and we watched all of Gurren Lagann in one go
*I have sad look on my face
*Asks me whats wrong
*Tell him I feel bad about introducing him into the Otaku life
*He starts to get upset
*Says its not my fault
*I get flustered myself from feeling guilty
*Tells me everythings cool
*We calm down and go to Taco Bell for party box
*On ride home a thousand miles comes on
*Sing as high pitched and gay sounding as possible
*Get back to his house
*Hear noises from inside

I was introduced to Anime, but even with how far i've dived in I wouldn't blame the person who introduced me to it.

If I was suppose to blame my friend for introducing me into an addiction, I would also have to:

Blame my old man for getting me into gaming (he bought my N64 after all, and that just started it all)
Blame my eating utensils for making me fat (it's not the cakes fault after all)
Blame the Internet for turning me into a pervert (ok so maybe this might have been Playboy first, whatever)

You get the idea right?

It was your friends choice to dive in deep. Nothing about that is your fault.

While can't say anything about him getting fat and lacking a social life(although I've done the same, won't say it's the right thing, just the life I prefer), I still say your friend made a better choice than you.
Lacking a social life and getting obese is definitely not too healthy,, but hiding your love for me to avoid being ridiculed is too stupid. Even if you had a reason like Kirino from OreImo and Haruka from Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu, it still hurts me to hear someone is pretending to not like something they supposedly love.

why did I bump this..

anyways here's my two cents, OP is only at fault for introducing said friend to this medium, what happens afterwords was at his own discretion.

p.s. I did not get the meme, had to look it up.

edit: if the entirety of this thread was for that purpose, well then damn girl, you got me good.
