Wow. That was beautiful.

(And, much as I would like it to stay beautiful, part of me is kind of hoping this turns into a major emotional White Album 2 style train wreck. )

I wish the musical scenes could move me, I'm just too old and jaded for shit like that.
Personally, I'm waiting for these characters, especially the obvious American girl who "don't play by those rules, yo," to destroy each other emotionally.

I was beautiful indeed!

They're still in middle school so I don't think Kaori is going to be doing the walk of shame from Kousei's room any time soon (though that would be fun). But I am enjoying the romance in this and the music. Love White Album 2 but not expecting that kind of love triangle damage here; would love to be pleasantly surprised however.

I wish they'd animated all the violinists in the competition, not just Kaori. The stills and panned stills looked really cheap and while artistically they did make the earlier entries look boring, I think animated but boring playing of the violins would have had more impact than panned stills.

I'm wondering how much they'll adapt into the 22 episodes, since the source material in the manga is over 30 chapters now. Maybe a second season? I'd like the manga to be licensed too.

I read that the manga is ending soon and that both will end at the same time and ending, complete.

Great performance by Kaori and how about Kousei's assessment of how she played? I was expecting some canned kind of response, but his answer to her was quite surprising. I was so disappointed when the episode ended. It almost had me go sit down and start re-learning the piano (too late at night for me to do that).

Friend A does sometimes get the girl... :)

Loving the show, but for some reason the anime style changes in this one really bugged me.

I wished the same thing, but at least it was a thoughtful cost saving device. The stills as you said did lend some artistic merit to the scene.

So far, I'm really enjoying this show. Personally, I'm fundamentally opposed to the idea of "Friend A" as a real life concept, and the thought of being someone's substitute makes me gag.

That said, it makes for some gooood anime drama.

Episode 2

The animation is beautiful! The music is beautiful! The whole episode is beautiful! But I'm a little confused on one thing. I thought Watari was dating Kaori but later in the episode he promise to walk home with another girl named Kiyoko. Is he two-timing Kaori?! Kaori is not gonna be happy if that true. And with her personality... Oh dear god! I hope Watari isn't gonna share the same fate as Makoto from School Days!

Oh yes, Watari is definitely a "lady's man".

I feel not animating the other violinists also drove home the idea that they were playing mechanically correctly but without passion while Kaori's performance is all passion with little thought to rigid adherence to the mechanics.

Oh? Well then, i hope it goes a good route, and Koari/Kousei end up together. I'll definitley buy the anime now. Where is the source for the ending though, if i may ask?

It is goooood drama. They are telegraphing everything so the story is quite obvious but somehow it is done in such a way that I don't mind one bit. I am looking forward to seeing it unfold, all the scenes foreshadowed in the OP.

In episode one they counted the number of girls for Watari, I think it is up to 3? Three timing is dangerous business but they have already telegraphed that Friend A has much more in common with Kaori than Watari other than the latter being the hawt captain of the soccer team. Infatuation rarely lasts.

The event announced that the manga will conclude in spring 2015, and the anime will run for two cours and adapt the manga through the last chapter.

As for the ending, CURRENT MANGA SPOILERS

I too hope it ends that way in the spring.

After episode 2, this is up there contending for AOTS for me. I'm loving the music aspect and the drama being so focused on fleshing out the characters thus far.
