Hey everyone!,

I'm looking into learning Japanese and I know there are many programs to learn (Rosetta Stone, and the all famous School of Watching Anime^_^)

I just wanted to know are there any programs anyone can recommend and why you'd recommend it

I like the Rosetta Stone software, but I think you'd still need someone to actually speak with for it to stick, at least that's my biggest obstacle.

That's part of the reason I need one of two things or both

1) Friends who are fluent in Japanese
2) A school that offers Japanese classes

second option isn't available to me since there are none in my area. Thank you for your recommendation

I'm hoping One Day that I can say that I'm fluent in Japanese...I'm already really good at French, and Spanish; super easy. But learning Japanese fluently is a total "Guilty pleasure" of Mine.

I'll second the recommendation for JapanesePod 101:
http://www.japanesepod101.com/index.php

There's a wide variety of lessons: from complete novice to advanced. Almost all of this, you can access for free. If you pay for premium, you get additional learning tools, which are worth paying for. But, if you can't afford it, what they offer for free is still extremely useful. Personally, I find their resources much more helpful than Rosetta Stone.

I learned quite a bit from Human Japanese. While not free for all the lessons, you can try a trial for it. Definitely worth a try.

I'm very good with Spanish but a dream of mine is to live in Japan for some time. I'd rather go to Japan than Spain, that's just me but I love Japan

Well in comparison to Rosetta Stone 200 and something bucks, I think I could pull of $25 a lot cheaper than I had expected, thanks!

I don't know but I love America but I would feel at home in Japan. I feel like my weirdness is normal over there, it would be a wonderful thing. Plus! I wish my school had a Japanese program. I've been thinking of majoring in English and Japanese so I can become an English teacher in Japan
