There are so many anime out there today that it's really hard to tell what's a need to watch or what is just good. But what is the best anime out there? What I mean by this is what has a good plot, characters, setting, and something that sets it apart from other anime. Is the best anime a classic or something new. I'm sure it's based on opinion and stuff, but in your mind, just what is the best?

I found a thread similiar to this, but it didn't have a lot of choices
http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-168508/best-anime#9548676

Tell me what you think is the best anime of all time and why it's the best.

That's asking a question which doesn't have a true answer. Just ask yourself what the best anime is from your perspective.

People here will blurt out various titles, but all of them will be wrong, for anyone who believes that their opinions are facts suffer from delusions, and mustn't be listened to.

That's subjective, although you guys are free to watch Black Jack (great medical story with various interesting characters, lots of dramatic scenes, episodes are an hour long but good enough to gives everyone's character time to develop, great voice acting and very cool animation style, which is uncommon in anime) or El Cazador de la Bruja, which has no shortage of surprising and exciting moments and a worthy spiritual successor to Noir. Lupin III is a great series. campy at times, but the heist scenes, comedy and action really pay off. Tiger & Bunny is also a worthy series too, why? because of it's incredible cast of characters and diverse themes.

You'd find it easier to get an answer if you asked for a specific genre's best anime. Likely a lot of amazing animes won't appeal to you if you're not a fan of it's genre, even if people view it to be a masterpiece. There are many anime which are the best for what they are, but a single greatest anime? I don't think any answer you'll get is right, unless it speaks about a single genre and even then you'll find it difficult to get an unbiased opinion. Its the nature of questions like this.

NGE has the richest topography in terms of sustaining all forms of critical vegetation in my experience, so I'll go with that. If someone wants to argue it they're welcome to do so with someone else, I'm just lending a personal assessment.

(Plus I have yet to see a debate about NGE that wasn't a debacular kerfuffle, so it's not my intent to start one.)

The best anime is the one that got you hooked on anime. So its all subjectively relative.

FLCL for me though.

So hard to pick a 'best' anime their so many choices.

It's like what is the best video game, movie, television show, manga etc. There is no real answer so why would anime make it any different?

There are so many anime to choose from. It's been quite the challenge for me to find my one true anime. Toradora is my personal favorite. It's amazing.

It's not one a person can really answer if you are saying best anime based on success you are looking at something like One Piece which is massive in Japan or Dragonball or Pokemon which have been successful shows in several countries around the world.

For my personal opinion of the best anime i'll choose the most written and clever anime i ever saw Serial Experiments: Lain just nothing has ever topped that for really drawing me in and making me think.
