I'm going to see the new Star Wars movies.

The thing is, I don't care if it's going to be bad or not. I would go even if they're universally panned, every last one of 'em.

I just want to.

I'm not such a huge fan that I would line up on the first day it's available in the country, or even the first day it's available in the local theater. If any of the films involve a visit to a planet full of Jar Jars I'd probably call off a theater visit, but even then I'd still rent the movie some time down the road and fast forward through the Jar Jars.

There's gonna be lens flares oh noes

I refuse to give JJ Abrams any sort of legitimacy. He pretty much killed the Star Trek franchise, and now he is going after Star Wars. I fully expect to see Death Star Mk III in it, probably ewoks, and yet more desert Tattooine. I mean, millions of planets to work with, massive amounts of back story, and JJ Abrams is going to just "reboot" things and go his own way, largely because I do not think he can actually tell a unique story. Whatever it is will be his own "vision" of things, but just be a rehash of what came before.

I kind of almost expect to see Luke screaming "Khaaaaaaan!".

This is not to say that I think it might not be a good special effects movie. And to be sure Star Wars is more about the action than the storyline, so it is not really that similar to Star Trek which is more about the philosophy which Abrams did not really seem to understand. So it is possible that the movie, taken on it's own, might not be that bad. But still, I think I am done with Abrams destroying my childhood franchises.

Because the more money a movie makes, the more bad sequels he will get to make, until he runs the whole thing into the dirt.

I'm in the particular camp of "the prequels already ruined it, how much more can it be ruined"

Look what JJ Abrams did to the characters of Spock & Scotty! He can ruin it worse. Of that I have no doubt!

JJ Abrams has the ability to make Jar Jar Binks look GOOD by comparison!

I somewhat dread them, but I'll still go see them. I'm a huge SW fan for the most part (the prequels were terrible, but the Clone Wars cartoons were pretty interesting), and even though I loved the books up until the Vong stuff, I'm curious about what direction the movies will take in their place.

At least we know one thing for sure already - the new ones are not going to be all green-screened like the prequels were!

I've enjoyed episodes 4-6, no matter how many editions they've made on this trilogy.
With episodes 1-3, my heart was crushed.
But hey, I'll give this new one a chance.
