My MAL recommended Shiki to me because of Another. I'm just getting started so I can't say, but it's supposed to be good.

Speaking of: go to the MAL page for Another and down to the recommendations section. You'll have to take it all with a grain of salt, but I've found some gems that way.

Anime horror confuses me. Japanese live-action horror can be so good, but I've yet to see a horror anime that was anything more than disturbing or creepy. Aside from maybe Yamishibai, but that's just a quick dose of chills.

People would recommend Mirai Nikki as horror, but it's more of a romantic story.

Why is there no psychological, horror, and or thriller genre? Does CR just not have any? Loves to watch me a bit of crazy now and then.

He was asking for horrors on CR. Mirai Nikki isn't even on CR, it's on FUNI.

I'm still surprised whenever people speak highly of Another. I found it to be pretty laughably bad, with a few good shock scenes and not much else. However, the horror genre in anime is a pretty starved niche so I see how it would be good relative to the little else that is available.

I have a couple of shows in my queue which I don't remember off of the top of my head which I may post later but they don't really seem particularly scary, they just deal with typical "horror"esque tropes...

CR's choices for horror are rather limited. The one I would recommend is Another.

On Funimation, I recommend:
Shiki
Blood C
Corpse Princess

On Hulu:
Vampire Princess Miyu
Okamikakushi: Masque of the Wolf

Find in other places:
Shingetsutan Tsukihime

As to Pupa, the problem was it is so disjointed and the episodes were so short, it became a violence and incest fetishist's wet dream.

Another, for sure.
It's legit the only mainstream horror anime so far.
You could also try Thriller Restaurant but I don't think you'd like that.

I second this, though some of the stories were hit-or-miss. But the ones that weren't were fairly creepy.

I might have to try this. Where did you watch it at?

EDIT: Nevermind, I see CR has it. Gonna put this in queue for later on this week. Thanks!

Horror anime, a genre that goes back to the 1970s and the only one anyone has been able to mention is Pupa, from early 2014. Don't your memories go back further than three months? A four minute episode pile of garbage is the only horror anime worthy of the name??

This season:

Brynhildr in the Darkness certainly qualifies I would say!

There is a lot of dark stuff this season, not sure if all of it would qualify as horror but certainly psychological at least:

M3
Black Bullet
Selector Infected WIXOSS
Knights of Sidonia (wait for it)

Past seasons:

Sankarea
Akira
Berserk
Blood-C
Shinsekai Yori
Kokoro Connect
Monogatari (Bakemonogatari, Nisemonogatari, Nekomonogatari et al)
Pupa (a horror show in more ways than one, butchering the manga as well as...)
Another
Gosick
Dusk Maiden of Amnesia
Unbreakable Machine Doll
Noragami
Psycho Pass
BTOOOM!
Elfen Lied
Ghost in the Shell
Danganronpa

So many... take me forever....

And I'm sure this will be moved to the recommendations thread soon.

Quite frankly I've found my forays into anime horror to be quite disappointing.
Mirai Nikki is more of a comedy. Yuno isn't scary she's so over the top she's practically a Loony Toons character.
The scariest thing about Pupa is how badly the main character wants to bone his biological prepubescent sister.
Higurashi has too much filler and slice of life/unfunny moments to be scary. It's mostly a gore fest, there's no tension.
Hell Girl is way too repetitive.
Ghost Hound was forgettable and bland.
I have no idea why people consider Another frightening, it seemed like it was written by a 12 year old.

Of the big named ones like this I'd argue Shiki was the best. It pulled some stupid stunts but it at least attempted to create suspense and build up tension.
Paranoia Agent is good but it's more creepy than scary, and consider I Monster more of a thriller than straight up horror.
Ayakashi True Japanese Horror is kind of nice. It's not scary but it has lovely art and some fun ghost stories.

Best to stick to manga for horror in my opinion. I've just found it more satisfying.

There aren't that many horror anime shows unless it's from the 80s, 90s, or early 2000s, other than that you have no choice but to lean towards manga

It's not on Crunchyroll, but you should check out Corpse Party: http://myanimelist.net/anime.php?id=15037

It's pretty good!

Higurashi, Another, Mirai Nikki, and Corpse Party are a few. And we can't forget about School Days now can we!
