Let me just go out a limb here and say Toonami sucks, and it's just a waste of time as it stands. The only thing it's doing that's beneficial to the community is introducing new people to anime. Maybe it will get better in th next year or so.

My my point is, why does Toonami have to keep playing old stuff? Dragon Ball Kai is just a rehashed version of Dragon Ball Z (Which is good, but has been played on Toonami, and CW21 before, Black Lagoon was released in 2006, Naruto Shippuden came out in 2007 (and is all dubbed, yet is only at the sasori fight), One Piece started off over 30 episodes behind what was currently dubbed (which makes sense because it's the same in relation from manga to anime releases), Then, Naruto was made in 2002, FMA: Brotherhood was aired in 2009, Samurai Jack was aired in 2001, Blue Exorcist came out in 2009 Literally the only new things they've aired are Attack on Titan, and Space Dandy. Don't get me wrong they're good anime but what about popular deserving series who were hugely popular in Japan and have a dub releasing such as Magi: the labyrinth of Magic, Medaka Box, Is this a zombie, ACCEL World or Aquarion: Evol (coming up)?

I can't even see the subtle changes they did on Dragon Ball Kai, besides the corny OSTs.
I guess the target audience that Toonami aims is people that don't go to Crunchyroll or any other anime websites.

It's like they wanna say,

"here, here some awesome stuff happening in Japan. We're not forcing you to swallow everything. We're only showing you a few. If you're interested, you know what to do. Buy anime dvds/merchandises produced in America (I don't know the jargon term. Macro economics is not my major) and find it on our website.

We're not alone. Awesomeness is everywhere."

They wanna show a part of Japan but still preserve US' "_____________."

They don't want total conversion but show awareness and tolerance instead.

But we're speaking Japanese! 日本語喋ってるんだけど

Licensing costs, easier to package and reuse old material than to spend limited programming budgets on new or recent shows which didn't have any other NorthAm licensors. 4 of the slots from 3am-6am are old shows that were other Cartoon Network properties so they are just reusing their products at a later timeslot. Batman and Clone Wars were saturday morning runs while Jack/Symbiotic were if i recall monday or friday block runs before they went overboard with their 15minute shows in recent years and cleared their weeknight 6pm-9pm schedule out.

Just look back at the night AoT had it's first episode with the OP cut down, people complained and the programming director went and asked what do you want a few seconds of intro or more commercials to paraphrase. All comes down to cost.

The only show that I follow on Toonami recently is Space Dandy, which will return this Summer. Otherwise, I can't say much about Toonami since I watched it when I was a kid back when classic shows were airing. I don't find them that bad though. I actually prefer the dubbed version of Space Dandy tbh.

People watch it and the license to air the show must be a good price

I guess that makes sense khellrex. I guess I just think anime needs itself a regular channel on the major satellite and cable's programming list where the new anime is played, so once it gets popular we can watch new series dubbed with our friends who don't like sub as much as us.

Toonami actually has a really, really, really, really, really, low budget. It doesn't have the money to try an obtain licensing rights to everything that's new and popular. It's lucky that since toonami has returned that it has had as many viewers as its had, and its been able to obtain Attack on Titan, and Sword Art Online. So I think theyre doing a good job with what they've got.

On a different note, I don't have cable so it really doesn't affect me at all lol.

I'd stopped watching Toonami since the early 2000s. I did the same with Adult Swim AND Cartoon Network though around the mid 2000s. Nothing is the same and times have changed.

I wasn't suggesting everything that's new, but at least maybe half new half new and half old. Also, Naruto is over it shouldn't be airing at least while shippuden is on as well, which should be showing an arc way ahead of where it is at, but even where it's at toonami can't be doing too bad. 11:30PM Space Dandy 0.9 HH, 1.328 million viewers
12:00AM Bleach 0.9 HH, 1.252 million viewers
12:30AM Naruto: Shippuden 0.8 HH, 1.270 million viewers
1:00AM One Piece 0.8 HH, 1.158 million viewers
1:30AM Blue Exorcist 0.7 HH, 1.103 million viewers
2:00AM Black Lagoon 0.7 HH, 941,000 viewers
2:30AM Naruto 0.6 HH, 700,000 viewers
3:00AM Ghost in the Shell 0.4 HH, 517,000 viewers
3:30AM Fullmetal: Brotherhood 0.4 HH, 476,000 viewers
4:00AM Samurai Jack 0.4 HH, 437,000 viewers

Well they took it out for me when I was around 15 and put AdultSwim Latin American instead (which never broadcasted anime because they hate it)
But in their time they were awesome, the dub (LA dub) was good and... I dont really have anything special to say since it didnt last long...

That's the thing, their budget is too small to even do that. I'm honestly amazed they have been able to do Sword Art Online and Attack on Titan. Blue Exorcist makes sense cause it fits into their budget, licensing wise.

But realistically aside from whatever the first two shows are, nothing you'll see will be less than 2 years old. 2011 and before is where they will be grabbing their shows from, cause that is what they can afford.

I am very happy with Toonami. I finally get to see Black Lagoon and I love to hear the dub take on anime shows. I watch it to support it and it can help to get more fans into anime.
