No. That was how to get anyone that likes "a certain genre" to like anime. I disapprove.

Also, AoT? Stop being so mainstream >_>

Have you even watched the video, he touched upon this, people who don't know what Anime is won't care if it's mainstream or not, you believe YOUR standards to be the same as THEIR standards when it comes to critiquing Anime, they are completely different!

Strap them down to a seat, and clamp their eyelids open like something out of "Saw" and have Screens all around the room programmed to play only the best of the best for 72 hours straight. Once they leave that room, a new Otaku will have been born.

Someone who is new to anime isn't gonna watch Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Monogatari Series & other series that just not appealing to people who have never watched anime. If i showed my soccer teammates Puella Magi Madoka they would disown me as a friend. I agree with the points made about introducing someone new to anime Naruto/Bleach/One Piece but then again if I was 10-15, I wouldn't recommend Psycho Pass or Attack on Titan to them either. I agree that Attack on Titan, Psycho Pass, Steins;Gate are real good anime to show to people who are new and open up there world to Japanese animation. Then again, it all matters what gender you're introducing it too. Men would appeal to Attack on Titan, Psycho Pass and Deathnote and some women will enjoy those but most women would enjoy a romance comedy like Anohana, Golden Time or god forbid Free!. OP has a point I mostly agree with and I don't understand what Bathroom is saying be a "certain genre", I believe AoT and Deathnote are pretty opposite.

Your friends would disown you? Are you a dog or a slave or what? Joking, but really they woukd stop being your friend over something so trivial? I wouldn't stop being friends with someone just because he/she shows me something I would find weird, not appealing or simply different and that they enjoy.

To get someone into anime you need something that both eases them away from the "for kids" idea, and isn't that horribly far out. Death Note might be fun, but it is an off the wall idea. Same with anything focused on giant stupid naked people, child/ teenage super-heroes(AKA, the entire shonen genre), Mecha, etc. It needs to be grounded in something that is either relatively realistic, or takes from a genre that the person likes. Also, it's best to avoid going way overboard in the "not for kids" direction. Elfin Lied is not a first anime.

My suggestions are things like Black Lagoon, Cowboy Bebop, Jormungand, etc. They're fast paced enough to get people interested quickly, and not so far-out in their stylings to turn people off just from that. And while none of them are really dark all-throughout like some anime, they do have rather dark segments that should help push away from the "childish" idea that some people have developed.

However, this only works for those who like action, and outside of that genre I have trouble thinking of something that works(Not a romance fan).

Edit: Also I suggest against comedy. There is a lot of comedy that English speakers might love even if they don't know anime/Japanese culture, but a lot of it also relies on knowledge of anime or Japanese culture, and even if it is approved of, it isn't likely to make people change their mind on the "4kids" nature of anime.

And another edit: This is assuming you're trying to get someone who's more or less an adult into anime. If they're 15ish or under, just show then something shonen(if male) that has a fast start and they'll like it. If female, once again I can't help you, as I am the manliest of men and will not admit to having watched anything a typical girl would like.....
