Yes, things didn't go so well with the resubmit so we're addressing the things pointed out by Roku and will resubmit soon.

Sigh...

Oh well, thank you for your candor.

I just heard that Crunchyroll will downsizing their development team soon ( by the end of this year) and will simply partner with platform partners going forward. For example, they will have companies such as google and apple develop their apps for them. They have google working to release a chromecast version for them now.

It was explained to me that their development group wasn't competent in areas needed to maintain various platforms. This explains the lack of delivery on an updated roku app.

I feel like saying something like this should be accompanied with a quote, or a source (Bjaker or another member of the staff). Otherwise, it could start rumors with no basis, and harm CR's reputation unduly.

Keep me in mind if this is possible. As you may recall, I raised this possibility after the last time the app was rejected.

AFAIK, Google and Apple may "help" companies in developing apps, but they don't develop the apps themselves for companies. How much help you get no doubt depends on how many people they think you can bring to the platform.

If this rumor has any truth to it, I see it is a potentially positive development. My personal belief is that part of the problem CR has had in developing apps is retaining programming talent in the competitive San Francisco job market.

In theory, the benefit of having in house staff is that you can iterate apps quickly and push out minor bugfixes very rapidly. But if half the time you don't have the programmer on staff to do the work because they accepted a better offer and the company is still trying to find a new person, that advantage is lost.

Contracting an app out can be more expensive, revisions may cost money or the company may not give them priority if the contract covers doing them for no additional cost, but the staff is often more experienced, and any staffing worries become their problem.

Funimation uses the contracted app approach, and thus far, it seems to be working okay for them. They have fewer apps, but I'm rather confident they also have a significantly smaller subscriber base funding the development of said apps.

They did manage to get a HD-enabled Roku app out the door over 1.5 years ago, and aside for some issues with UI sluggishness during the first quarter of 2013, and lacking a decent queue, it has been working well. They also have an Xbox 360 app currently awaiting Microsoft's approval, so we'll see how that one turns out.

tl;dr version: Even if this rumor turns out to have some basis in truth, I don't see it as a bad thing.

Completely baseless rumors. It's quite the contrary. We had 5 new hires this week and we're growing like mad. If you know any engineers, let me know.

Please don't post things like this again.

I asked about the the possibility of putting up a beta channel and was told that as we're so close to launch we don't want to. This may be something we'll investigate again in the future though.

That's really great news; that is... If what you say is true. Maybe then, these new hires can help Crunchyroll release updates more frequently and not leave their customers hanging for years for roll out that has been repeatedly promised "coming soon" for over a year.

So I take it the turnaround time for getting the issues ironed out and the app resubmitted is expected to be shorter this time? (The average thus far seems to be around 3.5 months).

That's correct. We're expecting to be submitting again either this week or early next week.

Sounds like the engineering team is finally the size it needs to be to cover Crunchyroll's frankly insane multi-platform distribution strategy.

Will these new engineers be able to include the functions we really want in our applications? Will it make me younger and taller?

... another two weeks have passed and still no update or any follow up. It would seem you don't have any clue to what's going on at own your company. Please don't take this personal, but I am not sure how one can be an effective customer service manager when there appears to be a continued effort to provide invalid information about upcoming product releases.

If there truly is an update working through the approval process then why not post details on your company blog? Crunchyroll certainly does this for other announcements, such as the Chromecast support. Again, why not about this update (that you have repeatedly stated is coming soon.). Would it be too hard to simply write something up and post a few screenshots?

Sorry to come across as a jerk/troll, but I am very tired of waiting and being misinformed. If there is another avenue where I should direct this frustration at, then by all means, please let me know.

Roku has turned it down again . I posted my displeasure at Roku on their forum about not having HD . Now Roku says they are working with CR to get HD approved on it (I called b.s.to them on it) and that they weren't trying to stop CR from having the app in HD .
