I think it is more of the other way around. People think of Japan too idealistically. Many times they brush off the darker sides of Japan and its problems, portraying it as this Paradise.

There's often a built up double standard for everything from child porn, rape porn, anti-immigration, crappy law system, denial of war crimes, severe bullying/high suicide rate in schools, lack of individuality in society, and whatever else that comes out of Japan that isn't positive in other nations. It doesn't make Japan necessarily an evil place, but too often are we quick to brush things off as "Well, it's Japan."

People will fight to the death for a society (Japan/Asia) they're not even a part of. These foolish people most certainly will not get the same treatment in return.

It works both ways and not just with Japan but most countries in how they view each other. The grass is always greener on the other side. There are plenty of western influences in Japan and Asia that are being carried on as the ideal of what the west once was. West to East just seems more prominent if you come to this site or live in the west.

I would say most people do not let the rose colored glasses of anime/manga/drama cloud their judgement. which is why we shouldn't be so quick on generalizations.

I wish Americans would learn more interdependence. America is based on the idea of individual freedom and I appreciate that but we're more and more taking that to such an extreme we are, on a macro-social level, becoming less and less trusting of each other. The whole notion of "I built it myself" encapsulates perfectly the issue. The slogan completely ignores the reality that the limits to what can be created by an individual are bound within the strength of their society. Otherwise an individual has to expend significant energy simply supplying the basic necessities.

Not to mention, we're in the state of generation also known as a microwave society.
Everything has to be processed fast. They rather see results in a few days (e.g., gaining muscles from steroids).
They want receive and receive. They don't work for it and would rather step on everyone's toes to get to the top quick.

Noticed in their shows (Pixar/Disney) that it takes a short time to get results.

In our culture you do right because a mystical being (god or santa) or the police will get mad if you dont..

in anime the main character does the right thing because its the right thing.. has morals because its the right thing etc..

That to have a "social life" in high school isn't about drinking and partying, but to have romantic comedies and harems
