Aniplex of America is notorious for not re-releasing shows in cheaper configurations until years later if at all. The only one I remember is Baccano! and that was years ago; though there's a couple more I think I'm forgetting. Don't count on any re-released box sets for Kill la Kill as the single volumes may be the only offering they put out. Perhaps, if they sell well and sell out, then AoA might consider a re-release in boxed set form. But even then it would be years, at least 2 if not more, after the last single volume streets; if at all.

AoA is in uncharted waters with these single volume sets and I can't really predict what they will do with the franchise long term. Although of late, Netflix has been streaming AoA series both subbed and dubbed, so it is very likely the Kill la Kill dub will be on that service at some point. Additionally, Toonami may air the dubbed version if they so choose later.

I sincerely hope. Kill la Kill was one of favorites in years, but I can't drop $200 like that...Also, I hate to be a pessimist, but I am quick to point out that it's been two years since they've released Madoka and they have yet to do that.

I am really curious to know if they've ever done something like this in the past.

Fullmetal Alchemist was initially released in segments, and is now available in whole season box sets. This precedent gives reason to believe that other major titles in AoA's library, to include Madoka and Kill la Kill will receive similar treatment.

However Fullmetal Alchemist is from Funimation not Aniplex USA and Funimation have long given up on singles.

That's true, but AoA didn't release FMA--Funimation did. AoA seems to operate in its own way, totally deaf to the rest of the Anime licensing world that realizes releasing singles hasn't inspired anything other than vitriol in the last several years. I know it generally used to be common practice, but seeing as nobody else is douchey enough to break up a single season in more than two parts anymore, I'm just curious if Aniplex is going to stick to their guns on how fucking ridiculous this all is.

Either way, if they don't collate them into one box, I'll just wait for them to all come out and get them during the RightStuf Aniplex sale...though they haven't done one for a few years now...

EDIT: Well, that's what I get for not previewing the post before replying--somebody totally said all of this.

Fullmetal Alchemist is a FUNimation licensed show though; they got the rights from Aniplex in Japan. Aniplex of America, AoA, is a whole other animal from FUNimation in terms of how they release their stuff to home video. Here's a link to their current catalog of releases available at Right Stuf:

Notice the high prices across the board and not too many re-releases.

Right Stuf is only allowed to discount Aniplex of America titles during their holiday blowout sale, and even then it's usually only a select few AoA titles that had a hard time selling or have been sitting around on Right Stuf's shelves for too long. Don't count on newer, more popular, titles making that sale until their 2015 holiday sale at the earliest I'd say.

Having dug through box sets specifically released in North America by Aniplex USA, the prospects of a cheaper buy by going that route aren't good after all. Streams or desperation buying it is, then.

Damn. This is really breaking my balls...lucky I don't lust after LE's, otherwise I'd really be fucked.

The juxtaposition of your comment with the picture of Tomoko rubbing her hands together is just fantastic.

Its not the dub im judging but the people who are dubbing it.

I am a huge advocate of dubs in general.

But these greedy ass bastards are overcharging while providing a sub standard dub. A lot of the translation is done for you nowadays, AND you have experience at your jobs!

60 for 12 episodes is fucking fine, even 80. But 30 for 4 is absurd. Do they not know how to conduct business? This has the hard core buying it, but the standard viewers and casual fans will not purchase it! To go so far as give an inferior dub
KNOWING we would pay the same if it had no dub at all? Double ass!

Aniplex of America is not trying to provide a good produce, but milk a good product for all its worth. Its like selling your cow instead of its milk in Harvest Moon, or life. Great way to lose your daily income for a quick buck.

Hell, outside of Kill la Kill, i do not own or provide business to any of Aniplex of Americas releases....but only because of the expense. Funimation offered me Trigun for 15 dollars. 15. 25 episodes of Anime classic, 15.
Dont forget Fooly Cooly and The Slayers and yada yada yada.

Sentai Filmworks sold Clannad sub only for 35. Then rereleased with a dub for the same price after it sold well.

Aniplex is being an asshole I say! I am forced to deal with an asshole in obtaining Kill la Kill. And worst yet, the fear of them not putting their all in the dub strikes fear into me.

The Japanese cast put on a hell of an effort into the show. Ragyo's orgasmic shouting, Satsuki's commanding pressence,
Um, more shouting. Ryukos actress is damned experienced herself! They're swapping orders and stressing properky and just making little sense all over the place.....but I can see the potential.

I want to be wrong, believe me. I started the Kill la Kill thread several months in advance because of how psyched i was. The show delivered everything I wanted strictly because they wanted to deliever it. If Aniplex half asses it, its their fault. I will live, but damn will i never stop complaining.

Well compared to the actual Japanese releases you're getting 2 bonus episodes a disc if you look at it that way for the listed prices.

Actually looking it up the LE for Volume 1 is the same pricing/packaging as the actual Japanese release but with 2 more episodes.

Just think they are still stuck wanting to use a late 90's early 2000's pricing model for releases.

Apparently the other alternative is to obtain the likely to be noticeably less expensive UK release from All the Anime in Q4 of this year, and then either obtain a region-free BD player or rip the Blu-ray.

Reminds me of Madoka's release:

$30
$40
$75 ($60) since they are not putting up a booklet
