Does anyone realize how bad Funimation is?

The CrunchyRoll website and app is well designed, simple, and has a great user interface. There are many setting you can change and generally there are no visible problems. Their competitor, Funimation, has the most disgusting application ever. Take a few moments and download that atrocity just to experience what hell feels like. I can only imagine an underpaid CS intern making the application in a month or two. Their premium plan is 10 dollars and the only difference is that you can watch "ALL" of the episodes. In other words, subscribed users of Funimation still have to spend ten dollars on the their terrible app.

A list of issues with their app:
-There is no remember me option, so you have to sign in every single time. That means every time you close the app and every time you need to verify your age (not to mention the glitch involving being unable to verify your age because of a loop).
-The home page of the app is an ad. So make sure you click properly as if you misclick on the ad, you are redirected to whatever the ad entails. This app has not been updated since 2013.
-Finding a show requires a large amount of effort and time. There is a list of anime BANNERS that have no whitespace in between them which essentially means that the list is connected. That gives me eye cancer.
-There is no auto correct or auto fill for the search bar.
- There is no favorites, queue, or recently watched so if you exit the app, you have to go through the tedious process of logging in and finding the specific episode you want.
-Without premium (+ $10) you can only watch first 3-4 episodes of any anime. Which is the worst premium offer I have ever seen. Might as well just point the middle finger at everyone who watches anime for free. WITH premium and no subscription, you still have to go through ads on every episode.
- The background is black which isn't much of a problem but since everything is so bulky and compacted it is impossible to navigate the app efficiently.
-There are no settings at all. NONE. Can you even imagine that for an app developed by a company?
-THERE IS A SHARE BUTTON ON EVERYTHING + ads or spam all over the app.

There are so many problems with their app, that it is probably best for them to just make another one instead of fixing this one. Thank god for CrunchyRoll as their app is probably the easiest to use and has no spam within it. Hell, I'd rather CR have a monopoly on the anime industry if Funimation refuses to raise the quality on their site and app.

I don't even use Funimation. I only use Crunchyroll for the forums and sometimes manga.

If you don't like it then don't use it. This thread is pointless.

A month ago I tried Funimation Elite and it only cost $8 dollars with no ads on the videos. I'm not defending them, since their site is terribly slow and poorly made, but if you're going to hate on something, shouldn't you at least list real facts? Is the app different or something?

I once tried their site (without paying of course, don't know how much better it is if you pay) and my first thoughts were simply "No." and just got out and went back to my pirates(since the Anime I was looking up there wasn't on CR).
If the app is worse then I have no words for the company.

Funimation is an Anime licensor that licenses Anime from Japan for DVD and Blu Ray.

Crunchyroll is an Anime licensor that licenses Anime from Japan for streaming.

Funimation produces DVD's and Blu Ray discs as their core business. Streaming is just a secondary income and promotional stream.

Crunchyroll produces streamed Anime as their core business. Their DVD and Blu Ray business is lacking even worse than Funimation's streaming capacity.

Really comparing Funimation with Crunchyroll is an apples to oranges comparison. Because while they share similarities, they really compete within different spheres and have core business strategies and goals that are very different.

As for some of your other complaints, I have no idea what you are talking about.

An Elite Subscription with Funimation is $7.95 a month. AND it comes with no commercials. Even Crunchyroll has commercials for non subscribers. Also how many episodes you can see largely depends on the show. Many feature the entire show. Some may be missing the last episode. Others may not feature the dub. Like Crunchyroll, even most simulcasts are available to view after the first week. This does vary per show, but that works for Crunchyroll too. Do not expect to see all of Bleach if you are not a Crunchyroll Subscriber for example.

I do not really bother with either app. I use my laptop and I generally have few problems with Funimation's website. I admit, CR is better, but I would expect that to be so considering that streaming is CR's bread and butter. For Funimation it is more of an advertising portal for it's DVD's. And considering Funimation has a catalog 2-3 times the size of CR's, I can put up with a few problems when I am feeling too lazy to find the DVD.

Am I to assume you never heard about the memory leak in CR's PS3 app?

Are you butthurt over Funimation, their app, or their price? I am confused. The title of the thread suggests that it's beef with Funimation; the diatribe is over the app; but the only thing in BOLD is the price.

I pay for both my all-access account with CR and my account with Funimation, but I figured I was paying for access to their respective catalogs. Between the two accounts, it's roughly $20 a month; it's nothing to cry over, even with issues with both services.

You sound like you want your shit both free and high-speed. I suggest you either raise your pirate flag or pay for your fare on the ferry.

Just their app, honestly I don't mind their site that much. The entire rant was about their app. And no, I don't mind paying subscription fees at all. I was angry about how their premium app was so terrible. The 10 dollars that I referenced was the premium app price which you have to get if you want to watch entire anime shows. I only use the app when I wanna watch while running on the treadmill. But it was so impossibly hard to navigate through the app while running (in comparison to CR's app) that I popped a vein. That pretty much made me rant.

And to Cellory, I don't mind ads that much and thank you for clarifying their specific cause. I just mind that their "home" page or default page is basically a giant ad. Once again, I only reference the app, specifically android, and how terrible the app is. As Funimation the company, I hold no grudge towards their site or goal but their premium offer for their app is downright terrible. Paying 10 dollars for the exact same app except with all episodes unlocked is kind of outrageous especially when the app is pretty terrible. Must of been the first app that I actually refunded out of anger.

The Funimation app is terrible, however you can play videos directly through their website on mobile in a pinch. I'd recommend that route instead. The website itself is drastically improved (performance wise) from last year, but the design is still miles behind CR or any streaming site really. One thing I do like about Funimation is that the videos have larger buffers, which is helpful on less stable connections.

I've tried to use the Funimation player off and on for a while. It's way better than it used to be, but after learning of Crunchyroll, there's no way I can go back. Once they find a way to get the vitas backlight to not turn off, I'll have zero problems with any CR app.
