When it's separated into bite-size chunks, it's easy to forget how quickly the time adds up. A 12-episode series lasts almost 5 hours. Most movies aren't even half that length, and often have more content than 24+ episode anime series, which tend to have lots of stretching and stalling and padding to fill out the allotted time.

Some shows genuinely need to be longer than 12 episodes, but not many.

It depend on the source material , how well the anime is adapted!

If you have an anime that has a lot of manga, LN's etc and you try to rush in 12 episodes the you feel like it was a waste of time!

A new trend is that some animes start in the middlle and really need prequels!

How about animes that have a lot of arcs for example the Raildex animes. A new anime is Black Bullet that has previous events!

And to all you anime newcomers and I mean 10 years or less, Most animes were 24 episodes with a S 2 of the same length!

I do not mind a 12 EP anime if they dont skip and rush! bUT A lot need more than 12 EPS. But it looks like some in the industry know this and are putting out S2 more quickly!

Here's one current anime that has run 3 cours in a row and still going strong Yowapeda

It depends on the series. Anohana being more than eleven episodes doesn't sound very appealing.

Deadman Wonderland forsure for me. That show was epic. I really don't see why it ended early.

With anime generally 'All Ages' shows will get tons of episodes, everything else will get between 1 to 2 cours, which could be from as low as 9 episodes to as high as 26. Then if the blu-rays of that show sell well, you can expect a season 2, if not, then that is it.

By All Ages, I mean Shonen-ish stuff.

Just because a series is good doesn't mean it would be better if there were more episodes. Sometimes yes, sometimes no. There are many shows that work well as just 12 episodes.

Couldn't agree more. Twelve is a nice number; not too few and not too many. There's always a danger that more episodes will dilute the quality and ruin the show for the fans.

Plus, some bad shows can benefit from more than just 12 episodes. Examples would be Galilei Donna.

How many anime can you honestly say suffer from having too many episodes? Unless you're talking about DBZ with the stretched out fights that span multiple episodes then yeah I would agree. But for the most part, I think more content is always better.

I think that it goes by which show you are talking about. Sure Angel Beats would have been better if it were longer, but right now I am watching Shiki, and that show did not need 24 episodes.

Used to bug me, depends ultimately on the show.

A great anime can be just a few eps, others need more for the complex elements. More eps doesn't instantly make it better. Just think how many of those eps are filler, redone scenes from the previous ep or the dreaded clip show!!

That being said, some stories sadly don't live up to the story if they rush it or worse end it mid-plot/manga continues.

I hope some of those get more eps like blue exorcist/deadman wonderland & fruits basket.

I really hope we get to see series focus more on the story to numbers of episodes determine the quality of the show.

As long as short anime satisfies and feels "complete", I don't mind. Canaan, Baccano, and Ima, Soku ni Iru Boku (aka: Now and Then, Here and There) are prime examples of short anime that seem to have done it well.

There are many series like that. If they are making money I do not see why they couldnt go past 12 episodes.
