Got into naruto and yuyu hakusho manga's. After that a pawn shop owner loaned me some naruto fansubs and I was hooked.

I grew up watching anime on CN when I was a kid but at some point I guess I arbitrarily decided I grew out of it and that it was only for weird obsessive nerds, and that it was nothing more then stupid cutesy bullshit or goreporn.

In my mind that opinion was justified cause one of my good friends, who just so happened to be a weird obsessive nerd with a thing for cutesy bullshit, was/is a big anime fan.

Anyways long story short one day probably 3-4 years ago I was bored and said "fuck it, I'll give this anime thing a shot again" and next thing I know I'm marathoning series like my life depends on it. I'm glad I did.

Mind you I still think 95% of anime is stupid cutesy garbage, but I kind of like it anyways so it doesn't matter. And that friend I mentioned who is a weird nerd, him and I discuss anime now regularly and I just kind of pretend like I never thought what I did and he's nice enough not to bring it up.

I had not a opinion on the subject by then because I had already watched anime before I knew what anime is at the age of 9. Thought I learned more things about it several years later when I came back to watch anime as a adult.

I only got Into Anime because of my sister. She showed me Clannad, and after that I started watching more anime.

The rest is history.

I didn't really know what anime was when I started watching it, I was four. But I did learn about japan after hearing the OP or ED of an anime and got curious as to why it sounded weird lol.

I just thought they were cartoons (Funny enough I started with harem and fanservice anime, as a kid you can see where that would lead)

I'm saddened to say this, but I thought it was terrible and the People who watched it were Basement dwellers who thought they were better than everyone else, simply because they knew of the obscure.

Again, I feel terrible for thinking that, but You can thank
for making Me jump to those conclusions.

I was watching anime before I had heard of the term "anime," and before I knew that "anime" is Japanese. It was by meeting a cousin that I found out. She and her mother are Japanese, she introduced me to raw Japanese comics that resemble the art of some cartoons I watch, and I watched Spirited Away in the raw. I connected the dots without asking. Humorously, I didn't learn the terms "anime" and "manga" until maybe half a year later in middle school, from fellow students. Vivianne didn't bother informing me of the right-to-left reading style of manga, though, which rubs me the wrong way. No wonder I could barely make any sense of the raws that she let me look at, aside from the whole "not in English" part.

I had always loved watching cartoons. Some how some way I had seen Akira when I was like 23 or 24 and was hooked on certain types of anime.

I had no clue what it was my first encounter with it was on Toonami and the more of it I watched the more impatient I got waiting for the dubs to show up. I think when I first saw it I thought America was getting edgier lol, oh how naive I may have been back then if I thought what I thought to think that America could actually make something as awesome as anime.

I thought it was kinda odd, and weird. And that the fanbases surrounding them were creepy as all heck.

I didn't know the difference between cartoon and anime when I began watching. Actually, the word anime was not even in my vocbuary at the time. I just thought that some cartoons were better than others.

I first thought all animes were cliche and corny, but the more I watched the mainstream ones, the more I got pulled in with the lesser popular animes.
