I dunno, I am sorta fine with feminism, just can't stand it when feminists seem to make it look like woman have always had it harder or stuff like that. "Equal opportunities" sounds really nice, and has a lot of nice sides to it, but practically it just means that every mother is nowadays forced to work... of course it's a simple economical free market side consequence of feminism and not an intended consequence, but still, really cant stand it when feminists forget gender roles being different (even in things like authority and power) does not automatically equal abuse of power. Damn it, just read some literature of 100 years ago, males went quite far to care for their wives. But as the harm is already mostly done, then may the force be with [email protected] At least it's great for the minority of females who prefer (forced) labor and hopefully they will be able to fix the gender wage gap as well (it's just 12% or so if you take care of all other factors, not the 30+% if you look at the raw numbers)

This is the last time I'll say this. The way to STOP rape. Isn't raising awareness. Raising awareness is only part one of the plan. Part two is arming every single woman and child with mace. Giving them training on how to use it. And making sure that they know to carry it EVERYWHERE. When you walk to the car. Have it out, in your hand…. With the finger on the trigger ready to fuck somebody's whole day up. That's the only way to stop it. Men who rape aren't going to listen to reason. You aren't going to make them ashamed for hitting you. You have to fight force with force. It's the only way.

In theory feminism is a great idea, and in practice I think most people who identify as feminists uphold the core of that idea fine. I mean, I'm all for gender-equality, and that's really all feminism is about at it's core. So I am by definition a feminist, and that's fine.

I think it's another unfortunate case where a loud vocal minority makes all "modern feminists" look bad and that's unfortunate, because it's still a good idea and it's still a necessary movement. It's no different then, say, extreme environmentalists paint a picture of a bunch of tree hugging loonies when that's likely not how the majority of them are, or how people who want religious freedom are painted as a bunch of wingnuts. All 3 of those a fairly reasonable movements at their core, but soured by a few prominent psychos who take it too far.

It also doesn't help when people like the OP make it sound as if the whole movement is rotten. It perpetuates ignorance, and it couldn't be further from the truth.

While I do often hold women to a higher regard and give them more respect than other men, the moment someone starts to act ugly, no matter who, I lose all respect for them. While I have yet to encounter the type of feminists you describe, I'm pretty sure I would be disgusted with them.

Mace? No way, the real way to stop rape is with those penis shredder things they have been manufacturing...

lol dude, i think this has more to do with how the judge, the lawyer, media and the police culture and attitude towards certain things affect how certain people feel utterly, betrayed, alone and defenseless. particularly the victims. if there is power then i can see how the wilder would lose some humanity and concern for another becomes something that goes only as far as, "we can't do anything about it, it has happened to you and we're sorry about that". so, perhaps there is a reason to why people are so hard on victims but the seen it all attitude would pus anyone to have extreme distrust for all people and in particular the segment of their distrust may in turn say enough is enough and show no sympathies. :). peace.

I see some people in this thread have a depressingly hard time differentiating between actual, true feminism and the modern tumblr feminism (feminazism)...

Feminism to me is the belief that men and women should be equal in society, work, the law etc etc. E.G a woman is just as capable of being a welder or a bricklayer as a man, or men are just as capable of being a full time parent or a nurse as a women. However, a small but vocal minority of "feminists" as with any other group have undermined the movement somewhat. Attitudes have changed and significant progress has been made, for example,one-hundred years ago women could not vote in most countries. Sexism on both sides of the field do still exist but this will be overcome through understanding, education and a large amount of common sense.

Feminism in this day in age bothers me, mostly because feminism isn't associated with women who want to be on equal footing with men in everything. But rather because feminism is associated with extremists who act like they are the superior gender.

It seems so many people neglect the provable fact that we are a sexually dichotomous species. Men and women, both physically and neurologically, are different from each other. We are good at different things, and we are bad at other different things. It's just how it is, and there is nothing sexist about admitting that.

Where I believe most people fall in line is that women shouldn't be mistreated. But it's that line of what constitutes as being mistreated where opinions start to diverge. But for a lot of the more extreme feminists, that line is so far that it's ridiculous, and ruins any credibility people would normally give to feminists. The topless rallies of course being a fantastic example.

Not to mention a lot of the approach by these extremists is very aggressive and abrasive, often blaming men for... well anything. It often comes across as whiny and childish as a lot of that blaming is baseless and unproductive towards their argument (which is also often baseless).

For me, I'm all for the empowerment of women. While I can't say that I myself would like a woman who had no need of me emotionally, physically, or financially, I'm all for women being given all the same opportunities as I am.

Getting punched on the gonads should hurt more than getting punched on the boobs. If mma would allowed such things, it'll be something.
