And how funny, that's the first non-mainstream anime I decided to give a try. And I LOVED IT

I almost passed off No Game No Life as an ecchi, otaku pandering show, almost. It's actually really well done! The animation is beautiful, the main characters are really likeable, and the games they play are out of this world! (see episode 6 to understand pun)

I agree its great lol but it still is an ecchi, otaku pandering show. It just also happens to be awesome.

The biggest problem I have with this anime is the treatment of the villains. The villains of this show get absolutely no respect. It sort of feels like a chess champion participating in a tournament for special ed kids.

The villains had been pretty much doing the same thing to Elchea for years up until the siblings showed up. And the villains mostly haven't been villainous so much as antagonistic, which might be part of the problem. It's a lot easier to see villains get their comeuppance when they're actually evil, but you could easily argue the most villainous ones are [ ] (because trying to entertain God is an ok reason to conquer the world and, possibly, denounce the rights of other races).

You don't? Both Sora and Shiro look down on every opponent they face, and they always win. They didn't even lose against Tet, who is god. This show lacks a genuine antagonist.

I really don't like stories that essentially tell you someone is the bad guy. A good story shows it.
It's a clever show, but it feels sort of like an artificial form of being clever. Like it presents really clever problems, but solves them as if it has the teacher's manual. You don't get to feel that struggle.

Madoka Magica

When I only saw pictures, I assumed it was going to be the typical magical anime ( Sailor Moon, Negima, etc...). When I actually watched it, I was shell shocked at how wrong I was.

When I only saw pictures

When I actually watched it

Hunter X Hunter is actually my favorite long series. I like it way better than Naruto or Bleach (didn't watch Fairy Tail and dropped One Piece after 4th episode...)

Says the anime hipster

They are d-bag gamers, so that make sense.

It doesn't bother me.

So true. Plus I watched Angel Beats 2 days before I watched Madoka so it didn't have much impact on me. (AB was overwhelmingly sad. Madoka, I'm already used to ppl dying.) It's just ppl who aren't used to it overreacting.

And that's where I mean the problem you have lies - we haven't seen Kurami or the elves or the flugel or the werebeasts be villainous. We've been told so. And mainly through the gambits that the previous Elchean king had performed.

It's also why I said you could make the argument that the most villainous are Sora and Shiro, just how in a show like Code Geass you could say the most villainous was Lelouch. The most villainous/asshole-ish actions have been performed by them (i.e. tricking Steph just so they could get all of her assets, debunking Kurami's semi-safe plan of stopping Elchea from ridding itself of anymore land, betting Humanity's Race Piece just so the werebeasts couldn't easily decline a challenge). And the reasoning is just so they have the chance to challenge God again, something God could easily do himself, and probably should since he would have to be the challenger.

EDIT: I should say "the problem you have with the series". You, yourself, don't have a problem, obviously. >.o;
