Ok. I'm going to take the lazy route and only think of shows from the spring session and one that comes to my mind instantly is Is the Order a Rabbit? I thought it was going to be some little kids show and it has been above and beyond what I expected.

Really? Because I was expecting this:

And it has been pretty much that so far. Actually, it has been exactly that so far.

Ah see now I haven't watched that one, yet...

Death Billiards; I honestly it was going to be a complete rushed anime since it's only one episode, can't except a lot of stuff to happen in one episode. After finishing episode 1 I was left shocked on how well executed this anime was put and didn't felt rushed at all.

I was pretty much expecting moe. It's kinda similar to Non Non Biyori in a way (Chino-chan reminds me of Ren-chon from NNB)

Man did I misjudge this series... after watching other sports animes, I got curious about this one, but I thought it was going to be nothing more than fanservice. Well there was A LOT of fanservice, but I didn't get bother by it. The series as a whole was entertaining and I liked the characters. I can't wait for season 2.

Gintama.

people think it's all about dicks and potty humor. well they're not wrong.

but there's also parts with "all the feels", got your typical shounen fighting-for-nakama going on except it's more epic in Gintama bc you don't expect to see these funny characters suddenly kick serious butt against the bad guys../ and don't even get me started on all the sad crap that happens T_T

Thankfully, the cover art usually tells you all you need to know.....until I saw Angel Beats. Normally cover art like that is enough to get me to leave that lolicon puke for the sad-sacks that get off on that garbage, except Angel Beats isn't lolicon garbage at all: It's a compelling story about living (or dying) with regrets. Thankfully enough people I respect kept recommending it and so I gave it a shot. It makes me wonder if other great shows have slipped under my radar though.

Yeah. I watched Madoka without any research or it being recommended. Easily the only thing I can list not related to the other kind of misjudge (thought would be good, was bad, ect). I really thought it was X, but it was Y. Brilliant.

While its true that some folks might misinterpret the show to be light and happy if they go in seeing some screen shots of cute characters doing cute stuff, I think most people pick up that the shows dark right off the bat when watching it as the very first scene in the show is somebody bludgeoning people to death. Oddly enough I think people misinterpret this show in another way expecting it to be nothing but dark and brutal goriness, and don't realize that there is another almost shounenesque message to the story by the time you are through with it.

I'd consider Umineko misinterpreted as well, except for the fact that Studio Deen cut out nearly everything important to the story. Thus making so many watchers have an incomplete view of what the story is supposed to be about, but without having any way of knowing what they are missing in the presentation. 7th's expansions works revolve around the characters, and what makes them tick, and how it guides the plot rather than the other way around. Unfortunately Ryukishi07 was super tight lipped about the actual story with regards to the production team when making the anime which made it real hard for them to know what was actually important.

i watched a version from an old Geneon licensed dvd...no i didnt watch the dub, it had dual audio. but the first scenes from the arcs were cut out. i do believe that was only to the legacy ones, the later Geneon copies and when Funimation picked up the license after Geneon was shut down, the dvd's were (probably) fully uncut. but i bought the first one i found.

I have not seen Umineko yet. after i spent so much money on importing the Higurashi franchise (2nd season + ova's) , i got mad at Higurashi no naku koro ni kira. the fan service in that had me turn away from buying Umineko but that is just a completely biased opinion because Kira slapped me in the face when i watched it.

I admit I was hesitant at first to watch The World God Only Knows, I thought it was going to be pretty lame. But I'm so glad I did! ^^

I think sports anime in general are misjudged, the first sports manga I read was Hajime no Ippo which is just as good as any other popular series out there. I started getting curious about others and ended watching Kuroko no Basket, Chihayafuru, and recently Yowapeda and all of them are really great series to watch. I can't believe I didn't watch them sooner and I will check out more sports animes in the future.

Lots of spoilers in this thread. Please use the tags, people.

Recently, My Sister is Unusual. People went spastic because of the saucy stuff you can find in the first few eps, not realizing that the rest of the show was just dull and tame as fuck.

The Tower of DRUAGA – The Aegis of URUK. Hilarious but horribly misleading first episode, particularly if you don't get that it's satire. Also, the next few episodes are pretty bland. Became less generic later on.

Black Bullet. There's a load of tosh about this being an AoT rip-off, which comes from a pretty superficial analysis of the show. Also, the first episode kind of sucked, it's watching the next three that can give you a good feel for the show.
