If you told me I'll love NGNL as much as I do before it aired, I'd think you crazy.

Not me, but my friend, already was reading the LN when they came out. He already pre-ordered the blu-ray for NGNL. He also pre-ordered Shiro's figure that was announced few days ago

I had never heard of it before, and it doesnt fall into my normal ballpark.

But also getting the blueray

The limited edition from Japan? Plus a special poster that comes with it if you buy it in Akihabara. We use a service where we choose a certain store in Akiba and they go there and buy it and ship it to us

Im currently jobless. Getting the blurays when they come to the us.

Definitely Selector Infected Wixoss.

I went into it expecting another Fantasista Doll. Boy was I wrong. I watched the first episode and thought "Eh, i'll probably drop this in a week or two." Now its one of only 3 shows that i'm following religiously each week.

Ping Pong the Animation. Not only the biggest surprise but probably the most underrated.

Is the Order a Rabbit? and Chaika the Coffin Princess.

I knew from the get-go i'd love Is the Order a Rabbit. I was unsure about Chaika, but the first episode did manage to hook me in, so I kind of figured i'd end up loving it.

EDIT - I am following other shows, though. Just not with the same enthusiasm as these three.

Mahouka and Haikyuu!!

Mahouka just seemed like a show that I would just hate. Gray stu MC, it is going to be very popular, tumblr is going to make a bunch of .gifs with that stupid color correction. I just knew that it was going to be something that I would loved of shit on. Although I actually really like it. I honestly don't know why. I just really do. Every Saturday I say 'Fuck Yeah! Mahouka Today!' and I would enjoy that episode to the max.

Haikyuu!! also is another one since I always watch the episodes immediately and some episode I just get hyped in. All the other anime I am watching this season I knew what to expect and I was right about, but these two I wasn't.

Pretty much every show this season. I started out looking at two new anime. I somehow jumped to about 11.

Top surprises are NGNL and Mahouka Koukou, for very different reasons.

NGNL, like Sacae stated previously, was top surprise. There's so much in this anime that I hate, but I love the show. I couldn't even begin to explain why, although Steph may be a big reason.

MHnR is a surprise, but on the negative end. It was one of the two I was looking forward to. Although it has improved slightly, it just comes off so much better as a Light Novel, in my view.

I almost hate this season, because there's so many others I'd like to watch, yet I just don't have the time.

Black Bullet really suprised me how good the animation and story is for this show.
Baby steps was really looking forward for this, since i read the manga and it didint come up short really pleased, with the anime right now good pacing to the story and is true to the manga

I'm loving Baby Steps as well! I dont usually watch sports anime, but i had to for the baby steps manga sake and was really surprised at how well executed Baby Steps has been. I really agree with the pacing part. Alot of the other sports anime's take forever to get going and matches last too many epsiodes. Baby Steps has been keeping me in it's grips every week :)

Ping Pong: The Animation

I checked this out because the preview made it seem like it would do a good job of capturing the intensity of a sport. Little did I know that was just the tip of the iceberg. It really shows the intensity of living as a Ping Pong player. That may not sound like much, and it wouldn't have sounded like much to me before I started watching this anime, but it is much more than it sounds on paper. It's not my absolute favorite of the season, but it's easily in my top 5.

This whole season was been a surprise. I can't tell you all the shows that I thought were going to be average, but ended up being excellent once I gave them a go. Many others have pointed out shows like: Nanana's Buried Treasure, Selector Infected Wixoss, No Game No Life, and Kawai Complex. And I agree with their reasons without a doubt.

But the biggest surprise for me would have to be Chaika - The Coffin Princess. I thought it was going to be some stupid, generic shounen with horrible characters but man! I was wrong! Not only is it the biggest surprise of the season for me, but it's also my favorite show of the season. Such a fantastic show.

Second would have to be Brynhildr in the Darkness. It wasn't because I didn't think it was going to be good when I first looked it up, but I was surprised that it got me so hooked on its story. After the first episode I was just dying to see what was going to happen next and started to the read the manga and OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!! BEST DECISION EVER. I would like to say that I'm now a huge fan of the manga and totally love the series.

Black Bullet is a 7.5/10 for me. You don't know how massively disappointed I was for the episode with Kagetane's battle.

Here's my toplist for one of the best seasons in anime:

No Game No Life
Black Bullet
Mahouka
Mekaku City Actors
Isshukan Friends
Usagi
Chaika
WIXOSS
Nanana

I've been hearing very positive reviews to Ping Pong, so that's one I may pick up soon.

Yea i just wished the manga had the anime pacing for matches lol I hate waiting 5-10 chapters for each match also like the romance aspect of the show. Big fan of Romance and sports combined usually turn out as good shows. I just checked out Haikyuu seems really interesting and the animation is good and the pacing seems on par with baby steps. You should check it out if you haven't already, another spring surprise i should say.
