1. Raise taxes, people will bitch but it is a minor inconvenience for everyone.

2. Use taxes to fix our damn public infrastructure which is crumbling and build new public communication infrastructure so that ISPs have competition. Government jobs are created with that infrastructure and internet prices go down to match the rest of the world.

3. Less people would now be looking for jobs (b/c so many work for the government) so private employers have a harder time finding good employees because of less competition for the jobs. This leads to more competitive wages to attract employees. (this has happened before and worked to stimulate the economy when WWII started and the Cold War kept this going)

4. Detach insurance from employment and instead create open competition between insurance companies. Insurance prices would go down. (or alternatively fund a national health insurance program where everyone is covered with none of this deductible nonsense)

This is really all it takes, but first we need to stop voting cowards in office who worry too much about their reputation... we need people with knowledge and kahunas to raise taxes and create those jobs. We also need to actually research the politicians we vote for so we can identify corporate puppets. Don't get caught up with party non-sense and don't get distracted by controversial topics... the things we really need to protect wouldn't be controversial in the first place.

We can get this all working again like we did in the past if we would take our heads out of our butts and our eyes off of social networks and pay attention to politics and what is going on in the world. LEARN ECONOMICS

I'm gonna be honest here though, I'm betting against the people... they are too far gone... they can't even handle simple math...

Behold, as they confidently get it wrong, so many of them... There is some hope among them but it is still not promising...

Well, haven't they been doing this for a while now, I mean we keep asking them to do stuff and therefore giving them more power over us.

I don't like how the President is passing his own laws without anyone's approval it completely bypasses the checks and balances system and no one is man enough to call for a impeachment. If any other president did what Obama is doing you know they would be impeached so fast. It's not racism, it is his defiance of how the country is supposed to operate that is making me angry. "I don't like how you guys keep not passing my laws... therefore I am going to enforce any law I want!" He definitely would do that and much more if he weren't afraid of backlash. $15 minimum wage? Say hello to $12 happy meals and $9 per gallon gas. Oh, you been at the job for 10 years and managed to crawl to $13 an hour? Well, sorry now you're stuck with children who don't know the meaning of work you will be training to replace you while they pay you the same wage as them. So many people on government assistance like food stamps it's just ridiculous... My mother was 16 when she had me and immediately got a job as nursing assistant and raised me on her own money (her own apartment and all that) with zero government assistance. People claiming they can't feed their kids they are single parent are full of crap. It's 100% possible they are just lazy. .

First, I'm sure other presidents have extended their power than where they shouldn't, hell I can include politicians of all parties.

Second, you don't know the experiences of each individual on government assistance, their lives are different from your mother's and are not going to have the same luck or mentality as her. While there are some who are lazy and taking advantage of the system, there are more who are hard working citizens trying to feed themselves or their kids; that government assistance is helping them out in order to lift them up on their feet and survive until they don't need it.

@saintjames----If thats true it just demonstrates the fact that the citizens of this country do need the right to own weapons incase our country is invaded and the military alone cannot push back hard enough.

I even remember a quote taught to us inschool from a general in the Russian military saying "We would be in grave error to invade America as there would be an armed citizen behind every blade of grass" If these restrictions keep increasing other hostile countries would know the citizens cant fight back and inturn become more willing to attack the U.S. Not to mention the gov CAN do what ever it wants if the citizens are disarmed.

Very true, urban warfare for an invader to the US would be a nightmare... moreso than any terrorist group could muster elsewhere.

Nope. All is good. Status Quo remains. Everything is just fine. Do not worry. The men in suits with guns are your friends. Free will is sin. Please report to your neighborhood Thought Police at least once a month. Dissent is treason. Do you support treason? The Overlord is kind and merciful. Rebels are the evil rotting our society. Please report any suspicious activity to the men in suits. Remember, Big Brother is your friend. Big Brother protects you. Individuality is the sign of a diseased mind. Do your part to cure the country of disease.

I think TheChowster hit the nail pretty squarely: governments govern; legislators legislate. When you have hundreds of people whose job it is to make laws doing that job year in, year out, then eventually those laws are going to start creeping into areas we're uncomfortable with. Ideally, I think that Parliament, Congress, Diet, what have you should only be convened to a) respond to acts of war, b) enact legislation for matters for which the courts can find no reasonable application or interpretation of existing law or c) to grant or dissolve powers of the civil service as required by the first two cases.

The citizens shouldn't fear the government, but the government should fear its citizens. Pretty sure that's a quote somewhere.

It's a quote from V for Vendetta, which does not portray Guy Fawkes realistically at all.
