I really, really liked AoT. It was incredibly intense and suspenseful, and I found it addictive to watch. I honestly think it deserves attention. It's not my favorite of all anime, but it's up there. I've watched plenty of anime, and I believe AoT is one of the preferred ones, for me. I don't even want to compare it to Code Geass though, that'd be way too difficult. D8

Well, I thought that AoT was a really good anime because it made me scared for humanity.
For the first time, circumstances are just so dire that it may not be saved.

That was why I like AoT. It made me feel slightly different.

But was it as good as the hype?
Not really.
I thought it's hype was bigger than what the series presented.

Nonetheless, I thought it was a good series.

Exactly

It all boils down to what people like. An anime can be completely generic, but as long as it has something people like, it doesn't how average it is *cough* Sword Art Online *cough*.

I didn't hate it. It was pretty good in terms of the 3D stuff going around. But I have to admit, the youtube video with the teens reacting to AoT is absolutely stupid. Obviously for me, there is really no way this show compares to the awesomeness of Code Geass. Code Geass was spectacular. I think what a lot of people are saying above are correct. Anime can be very broad, but I guess what made AoT so popular recently was that it was a little different from anime's with those typical "high school" settings. I mean, if you look at the ratio between "high school" type anime's vs. Horror/Thriller/Action, then which of these 2 types are made more often? I think the answer is pretty obvious.

Honestly, I felt like AoT deserved its hype. I felt like it did it's job well. I enjoyed the plot because of how much mystery it has. It kept me coming back for more, slowly feeding me answers, yet still keeping me entertained. I liked most of the characters and the development some had. I still want more development from Eren, however, but I trust he'll get it in due time. Not to mention the soundtrack was amazing. The overall atmosphere of AoT was just intense throughout. It had this realistic sense of fear that replicates how humans would actually react to the situations that they were in, being up against overwhelming odds with very little hope in sight. I would personally give it a 9/10. I don't really get some of the things people complain about with AoT, like with the pacing for example. Some say it's the worst they've ever seen in an anime, which I feel is an exaggeration. But hey, if you have a problem with that, then that's you. The pacing didn't really bother me at all. I thoroughly enjoyed the series and look forward to a second season.

Well it does boil down to what people want to see as everyone has been saying, What you call "hate" I call looking at it with logic, And don't hate on people if they like those types of anime either.

I personally like it, I can see why people think it was overhyped but so far I'm enjoying it. I like the story and some of the characters are awsome

AoT isn't the best anime in my book, but it's really up there. As for why I love it: Pretty much great production value, etc. The characters are all very strong. Each person has a very human reaction to their circumstances and are all unique. People might call Eren bland, but I can see any real person feel the way he does if they were placed in that situation. The only weird character I really think are outliers are Mikasa and Levi. Even then, I don't necessarily view them in a negative light. In fact, I think there is much more to come from them and the others to help humanize them a bit more (I could be wrong, as I don't read the manga).

In a nutshell, I feel that the hype is well deserved. It is both a character driven story as well as a plot driven story. And that's what makes it so strong.
