We have this one lady (old, fake tits, spray tanned within an inch of her life, gaudy costume jewelry) who's a chronic returner. This one time she returned a bunch of clearly used towels and such. It was an ordeal. Half the shit wasn't even on any of her many crumpled receipts. Another customer from a different line shouted to me "you're a saint!" as she was leaving lol. Later a co-worker told me that apparently she uses the stuff for rental properties or something like that then returns it all. Da fuck?

I've only seen it happen to other people... as I've never worked in retail.

(well I worked in it for 1 week during high school because they forced me to... [for free btw] and all they told me to do was put the stuff in the correct aisle, it was sooooooo boring)

I got that at least once a week when I was in customer service, with the same reaction from customers waiting in line. One regular would bring in a heap of receipts and 99.9% of the time nothing was on it. It came to the point where she did so many no receipt returns that I know the customer's name and I run away when the customer comes for a return, because it's a guaranteed thirty minutes or more to complete just a one item return.

Did you ever get the lame customer jokes? You know the ones. Like, "Did you fine everything alright?" Them: "Well... I didn't find a million dollars! Hurr Durr!"

Do other job horror stories count? I work fast food

But anyway I have a friend who I share stories with all the time, he works at a game store, guy came in and asked if they had EarthBound on the SNES which unsurprisingly to anyone who knows the game the answer was no
The guy didn't see it that way his response was something along the lines of "What the hell?! I thought you guys were a retro game store!"

On my first day, some woman tried to steal some diapers but what was funny was that she came into the store with an empty box of diapers.

So I work at a fast food place and one of the things we serve is tacos

One day this lady comes in the drive through and orders our special that comes with six tacos
She gets them drives around comes in and says we made them wrong, tells us she wanted half of them without taco sauce
So we start making them and she's staring us down from the front, suddenly starts yelling "Wait are those mine?! I said NO SAUCE on ANY of them!"
So we once again start making them, and it becomes some thing of only some of them are supposed to have lettuce
I don't even remember how the last ones were made but we give them to her ask her if they're right and she says "No I don't know how you can #@*% #! tacos four times" and walks out
At which point my friends mutters "I don't know how you can manage to make a different order four times"

Don't work in retail and haven't since college (I delivered building supplies for a hardware/lumber/building supply store). But for the last 25+ years I've been a government examiner for money service businesses. When a customer really gets mad and angry, they look at the store's business license and then calls me.

Example

"This is Bearhand for the Department of Spanking and Finance, how can I help you?"

"I'm here at your check cashing place and they're charging me too much to cash my check." (The state I work for licenses business to cash checks, we don't run or own them.)

"Well, sir, how much are they charging you?"

"$2."

"That business is legally allowed to charged up to 2% of the face value of the check or $2, whichever is greater."

"But the sign at your store (once again, not my store, I'm the state regulator) says 2%."

"Yes sir, but the law says they can legally charged up to 2% of the face value of the check or $2, whichever is greater."

"But the sign says 2%."

"How much is the check you're trying to cash, sir?"

"$10.00"

"You expect your check to be cashed for 20 cents?"

"That's what the sign says."

"Put the owner on the phone."

"This the owner?"

"Yes sir."

"How long has that man been holding up your check cashing business (This was on a Friday, Payday for many people)"

"20 minutes."

"What does your sign say?"

"2% or $2, whichever is greater."

"Cash it for 20 cents and get him out of your store. You're losing money, because 20 minutes for you is worth more than $1.80, right?"

"But it's the principal."

"Screw the principal. You are right. I am right. He's wrong and unless you're willing to call the police and have him arrested for trespassing, get him out of your store."

"Yes sir."

"Also, you don't have to cash any checks for him in the future. It's your business and he's a bad business risk."

"Yes sir."

Once when we were having spring clearance and were super FAWKING busy, this guy comes in and demands to know how much this pop up shelter was. The display up front didn't have a price tag for whatever reason (probably someone ripped it off, whatever). Anyway one of my managers tries to help him in between helping like 5 other people. The guy doesn't like how long it's taking and starts berating my poor (in his 70s) manager who feebly keeps saying "Sir, I don't have to take this." Later he comes through my line with the pop up shelter and keeps asking me things like "So what's the deal? Do only idiots work here?" he's really loud too. Then he snaps at my other cashier "What are staring at?? Can I help you??" I try to give him his receipt and change (which was like over 3 bucks) and he refuses to take either. That guy was crazy. Another customer said he "needed Jesus".
