Trust me, I forced myself to watch the full first series, and then even started the second bc people kept saying afterstory would def get to me. Its so slow, boring, and just, ...not entertaining.

Did you finish Afterstory? The first 8-10 episodes or so are rather irrelevant to the main story and once you get past that, the feel train will be upon you.
And on a side note, I actually watched Clannad out of order. I started with Afterstory and then the original. I honestly didn't know it at the time otherwise I would have watched it in the proper order. But looking back, I'm glad I watched it in that order for the initially run through. Afterstory is much more emotionally charged than Clannad and could honestly stand on it's own.
So if you haven't finished Afterstory, I encourage you to get through the first few character archs until you get around episode 8-10 when it gets to Nagisa's and Tomoya's relationship. I promise you won't regret it.

CLANNAD season 1 wasn't sad, except Fuuko's story
2nd half of After Story was sad.

Well of course you didn't enjoy it. Your first mistake was forcing yourself to watch it. Even then you're allowed to dislike something. Most people who dislike it say they find and it slow and therefore boring, but it's not trying to be super fast paced in the first place. It's meant to be slow. I didn't find AnoHana sad, but it doesn't mean I'm in the wrong, much like the people who did find it sad aren't in the wrong either. I personally loved Clannad but in the end it all boils down to the 'each to their own'.

I guess I forced myself to watch bc everyone raved about it. I didn't cry for any of AnoHana's eps until the very last, but I really enjoyed that anime anyway. But ya, I didn't find any of the arcs sad, entertaining, funny, nothing. So ya, to each their own. Just surprised so many people loved it like that haha.

seriously...

Not true, i forced myself to watch Hitman Reborn, since the first few eps didn't appeal to me, but I ended up loving it as the quality got a lot better. Same with Hyouka, forced myself through the first few boring eps and it grew on to me. But it didn't happen with Clannad, that's all.

Well, I haven't seen After Story but I've seen Clannad. I agree, I found it boring and overrated! It has such slow pacing, cheesy melodrama and stereotypical characters that I really don't understand how it became so highly acclaimed in the first place. It just felt like a typical harem to me...

Haha omg yes! so surprised people ended up loving that show that much. they always played the same music, and the ost was just dhfdjskhf not all that, and it was just eh. So glad you agree hehe ^__^

What I will say is; if you didn't think the character development was good enough in the first season, I wouldn't listen to anyone telling you to sit through the rest of After Story. Part of what makes it so emotional is your attachment to the characters, and if you don't care much for them then it won't do anything for you. 99% of the people who like the show, like me, do so because they like the characters and how they were developed. If you don't care for them one bit after the entirety of the first season you'll just end up watching sad events happening to characters you don't care about in the first place, thus wasting your time.

I quit during episode 1 of season 1. It was too boring to finish even one episode.

I'm glad I'm not alone in this. The first season wasn't as bad as I expected it to be, but After Story however, let's just say that I'm glad I don't have to sit through that ever again. I didn't like it nor hate it, it was just mediocre.

Legit. I would've done the same except my cousin watched it and kept telling me it gets better. Shouldn't have listened lol

I totally agree with you, since I never felt a connection with the show, I probably wouldn't have cared what happened in AfterStory. Even though i heard people die and stuff. But honestly, loving how open minded and insightful you are! I like you haha (:

Not a problem. I respect you speaking out about how you didn't like something incredibly popular as much as everyone else. I'm very much a person who's interested in seeing why people disagree with me on something, because it gives me insight into another perspective and can potentially sway my views on some subjects by informing me of something I didn't know. Now of course this is more of a subjective matter than an objective one, but still, interesting nonetheless. It leads to discussion on a topic that we're obviously both interested in, instead of resorting to shouting and telling each other they deserve to be stabbed in the spleen for having an opinion.
