seriously...

Not true, i forced myself to watch Hitman Reborn, since the first few eps didn't appeal to me, but I ended up loving it as the quality got a lot better. Same with Hyouka, forced myself through the first few boring eps and it grew on to me. But it didn't happen with Clannad, that's all.

I think your problem is the fact you heard too many good things about it. You may have forced yourself to watch Hitman Reborn, but Hitman Reborn doesn't have this huge following behind it with fans treating it like some academy award winning anime that will cure you of cancer like Clannad does.

I kind of had a similar experience with Shingeki No Kyoujin (Attack on Titan), all of my friends were just screaming "OMG YOU HAVE TO WATCH IT IT IS THE MOST AMAZING ANIME OF ALL TIME (or something along those lines)". After hearing this, I kind of wanted to hate it, and it may have destroyed some of my enjoyment of this show. (I still enjoyed it, just not nearly up to what my friends are hyping it up to be.)

Hitman Reborn was actually very popular.. Tsuna is usually in pics with naruto etc LOL so im just saying. I heard the same with AoT, and I wasn't disappointed, I very much loved the show. I actually don't think it was bc I heard good things about it because when I hear a hype about an anime, I usually watch it and am very pleased with it. But Clannad alone just did not satisfy me, I can honestly say I didn't get an ounce of enjoyment from watching that show, and that was all my opinion, I wasn't comparing it to what I had heard about it. I understand some people can take slow-paced shows, but I just didn't think so many people could stand to watch a show like that.

What I will say is; if you didn't think the character development was good enough in the first season, I wouldn't listen to anyone telling you to sit through the rest of After Story. Part of what makes it so emotional is your attachment to the characters, and if you don't care much for them then it won't do anything for you. 99% of the people who like the show, like me, do so because they like the characters and how they were developed. If you don't care for them one bit after the entirety of the first season you'll just end up watching sad events happening to characters you don't care about in the first place, thus wasting your time.

I totally agree with you, since I never felt a connection with the show, I probably wouldn't have cared what happened in AfterStory. Even though i heard people die and stuff. But honestly, loving how open minded and insightful you are! I like you haha (:

Not a problem. I respect you speaking out about how you didn't like something incredibly popular as much as everyone else. I'm very much a person who's interested in seeing why people disagree with me on something, because it gives me insight into another perspective and can potentially sway my views on some subjects by informing me of something I didn't know. Now of course this is more of a subjective matter than an objective one, but still, interesting nonetheless. It leads to discussion on a topic that we're obviously both interested in, instead of resorting to shouting and telling each other they deserve to be stabbed in the spleen for having an opinion.

Thats so me. I have a cousin and we usually have like deep convos about life, and we do have things we disagree on, but our arguments and opinions give eachother new perspectives and we tend to agree while still holding onto our belief. We don't fight over what's right or wrong but just accept that both are acceptable possibilities. So ya, we all have different taste and preferences, I guess i was just so surprised that many people can take slow-paced animes like Clannad when im so used to people over hyping other dramatic fast paced shows. Kudos to you guys haha. & i respect you for not bashing me on it! <3

Yeah the slow pace of Clannad didn't bug me. Anyway I'm not really a good judge of what anime is good though since I can watch pretty much anything (except One Piece I hate One Piece ).

Also I hope you don't think i was trying to push you into watching the show in my first comment because that wasn't my intentions at all.

I find it sad. I've watched Clannad back when I was in elementary school. I need to rewatch it to remember. But at least I've remember one scene. And that had me crying a bit. *Not giving out spoilers*

I never got through the first episode of Clannad... I absolutely have no idea what the big hype is. I will not continue the series. Same with Elfien Lied. Just my opinion yo. They were too slow and I found nothing that would attach me to the series. The first episode is the deal breaker for me

I actually rather liked Clannad and its Afterstory when I watched them for the first time... Although, on reflection, the series was too long for the relative shallowness of its story and characters. If the whole thing had been half as long with a greater focus on the main characters, their story, and development, I might have watched it through again. Granted, Afterstory certainly manages to sew despair in its latter half with the events of White Darkness and The End of the World; but then, only if you became invested in the characters and the story.

Thinking about it, out of all of the Key anime I've watched, Air was probably the most depressing. Although it gets a bit weird when you consider that Clannad and Afterstory along with Air and Kanon, are all about jaded guys romancing quirky cripple girls.

The only sad part for me -

I guess it depends on one's perspective. What I put in spoilers really got me though. I think that was the saddest I've ever been watching anime.

Clannad season 1 was meh, but after story was pretty good after the high school bit. It had some very touching moments near the end of the series.

Haha I watched Elfen Lied when I was little so I totally forgot how the plot went about. Also, I totally agree that Clannad was so boring. However, although i do find that the first ep is a breaker, if i see amvs where the show looks kind of good, i simply go on. Some i end up lovinggg, like Hyouka or Hitman Reborn (: .

I watched Air when i was so young an i remember crying a ton to it! I dont remember how the plot went about, but im pretty sure my tolerance to slow animes were much better when i was younger. Clannad was just not my thing.
