I've been posting more or less regularly here for a few months now, and I really just can't help but constantly compare the CR forums with my old forum, where I spent around three years before leaving in March. Is there anything you really like about this place that makes it stand out from your other e-hangouts? Is there anything here that really gets under your skin and maybe stops you from posting and participating as much as you normally would?

I'll start:

Best things:

- It's hugely active, with a very large and diverse membership. You can be pretty sure that threads won't just float off the front page without having been graced by any responses. The community here is always happy to say what they think about something, no matter the subject.

- It has some nice features, like the profile details layout and quote notification. You can easily find people who like things you like.

- Obviously it's a great place to discuss anime for people like me who don't really know anyone into anime IRL. I've seen some really cool discussions, having in particular got into the constant one about whether anime is getting worse or not and learned a fair amount from some of the veterans posting. Also, anime isn't stigmatized like it is in non-anime parts of the internet.

- No censorship and the moderation seems pretty relaxed. No need to constantly look over one's shoulder and worry that threads might be moved and posts deleted frequently.

- Lack of drama and animosity. Everyone's friendly and chill for the most part. We all seem to hail from lots of different origins, there barely seem to be any racists/bigots/homophobes/extremists and the community doesn't seem to take itself too seriously or have its head shoved up between its posteriors. This is a great thing.

Worst things:

- The two most active areas have serious shortcomings for me. It's hard to find threads that aren't plain boring or superficial in the General Discussion (not discounting this one from that tally either, lol) and my otaku power-level isn't sufficient to know which series people are discussing in the Anime section most of the time, plus there are lots of spoilers around there too.

- While most discussions seem very lively, they often come across as hollow upon closer investigation. Like, there'll barely be an inter-connected debate going on or posts containing scientific, historical or practical knowledge that you can learn from (probably because we're otakus). I've now gotten used to most threads being pages of answers to the OP without a conversation forming and evolving somewhere - at the same time maybe this can't be helped, seeing as the forum is so active that you can't expect people to read every page of every thread they want to take part in and therefore be aware of the flow of the discussion or find other comments to quote.

- The character limit in Guestbook conversations kind of forces them to be shallow and brief. Hard to have an in-depth conversation about things you like with friends because of this, and so it's hard to make connections.

- Lack of drama and animosity. Yeah this is a bad thing too IMO. Little conflicts, controversy, scandals, gossip and e-politics were a major weakness of my old forum, but also a strength in that they really do make things fun, and juicy. The place ended up having its own bloody history and wiki because of the tumults, lol. When everybody is relaxed and getting along in a pretty bored way, it's hard to get engaged with things like that

So that's that. What do you think, messieurs-dames?

Honestly you summed up everything for me, better than I ever could. Spend most of my time lurking the forums, other than anime.

+ It's interesting to post here; the topics are diverse.

+ I like that we get notifications when someone quotes us.
- I don't like that I can't see my own history of posts

+ I love the contests on the forum. I won two things so far, one is a poster from my fav anime Makai Ouji.

Oh cheers, glad to know we're of the same mind.

Ha, well my one unpleasant experience here was someone mentioning a character death in a well-known anime on my watchlist, without spoilers. Random cunts just get on my nerves and trolls are boring. Better when you have real shit hitting the fan - most recent example:

http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?653255-Further-Action-Ishan
http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?653984-Resignation

^The kind of stuff that can be infuriating and depressing to get involved in online and invariably a waste of time, but something guiltily interesting to watch from the sidelines or participate in as an observer. Though none of what's in the links probably makes any sense to an outsider, I'm sure you can see what I mean by drama.

Oh cool, which kind of contests? And where can you see the history of your posts?

Btw, you still owe me a reply in Qualeshia's thread about suicide :P

I'll be working to liven things up again at some point; something involving the news that Irwindale California has given up its campaign against sriracha. The main problem is that a corresponding comic will have to be done using primitive means because my tablet decided it doesn't like my computer. Until I can find an expert on making tech talk to one-another, I'll keep yelling at my device, and putting my journalism major to work.

I love the Crunchyroll forums personally. If there was a flaw, I guess I'd say that it isn't that We all don't know each other better. I've met some great People on here in a rather short period of time, and that's kinda poignant in a way for Me. And that's all been as a result of these Forums.

Love Ya, Crunchyrollers!

Agreed, CR forums feel like a really big city sometimes - very busy and colourful but sometimes indifferent and shallow. I guess I need to spend more time here to really become a regular and feel the same way you do.

I've entered so far; quiz, drawing, short story, scavenger hunt, guessing the amount of something in a jar. You can find most in site news section or contest-hime.

If you don't receive a reply within a few days, it means I admit defeat...

Dang really? That was over quicker than the Kengo vs Masato battle in Little Busters...

Maybe I'm just craving some kind of debate too much. That doesn't sound healthy at all when I read it.

Thanks for the info anyway, GAB.

Hmm, I personally don't pay attention to pros and cons when using forums, unless trolls are involved.
If I feel like posting something, I'll post it. Let it be starting a discussion or just posting my opinion.

Still. something must really be done about the damn character limit. It truly gets on my nerves when I can't message what I want fully and have to either shorten it or divide it, neither being things I enjoy doing.

I'm sure you notice some kind of difference between the different forums you hang out in though, right? I mean, every place has its own kind of flavour, quirks, do's and don't's, culture, personalities...I don't know.

Not much in particular. Most of what I've seen is that many people here are more carefree, without many fixed passions and switching favorites about, while in most others I mostly see people more focused on their top priorities.

Love the people and overall kind community.

Hate the inclusion of Japanese used improperly in the English language, but that's more a personal pet peeve coming from a translator.
