@ MephitBlue, the brony hate on CR is fairly minimal but a good example at one point was that there was a forum thread dedicated to MLP and the people who hated it started posting negative things the bronies retaliated and eventually it got so crazy that the mods shut the thread down because they were tired of trying to deal with it

Yeah, there are four seasons now with a fifth scheduled for some time next year. The beginning and ending of the third season are generally considered low points for the series, with things happening more for the toy line than for the plot, but the fourth season is generally pretty great.

well dang looks like i'll have to waste a few days on MLP curious as to what the "toy line" is

here's another pony i made with the pony-generator on dA. not as cool as the dark one, but cute ^^

I love MLP, and I have since my boyfriend introduced me to it last year... well I had to watch a few episodes, I believe it was either Applebuck Season or Griffin the brush Off that made me really interested in the series... (episodes 4 and 5)

It was also my boyfriend who'd gotten me into anime the year before that.

I don't see what's wrong with liking either of them, honestly.

And I really hate seeing any fandom get picked on... even Twilight. Pick on the books and movies, not the actual fans, as tempting as it can be.

Really though, what annoys me most is that people tend to believe that every single adult or older teen fan is a clopper. Ew. I will ship ponies, but I don't want to read anything explicit or see it either... nor do I want to see something suggestive. I do admittedly have a problem with it even when reading about humans doing sexual acts, but it is much... weirder, harder for me to read it when it's ponies.

That is such a small percent of the fandom... I only find clopping if I LOOK for it. Why would I do that? And that's what confuses me about how 'popular' and 'common' clopping is among fans... If I have to look for it to find it... why are people who hate bronies looking for that stuff?

Seriously though, the show is as good as Pokemon... probably even better than some seasons of Pokemon.
The music is as good as what you can find in a Disney movie. The humor is great. The animation is great. The characters are great. Sometimes it gets cheesy... but there's also a fair bit of action. Look up Discord. And Changelings for example. Weird Al even had an awesome guest appearance!

Anyways... back on topic ish... Even though I'm not entirely sure I understood the original post...

I don't really see any reason to hate bronies any more than any fandom. There are always bad apples in fandoms, the ones that annoy the **** out of you. 'Bad' bronies just got a bit more publicity than most 'bad' fans do.

The amusing thing is though, that even among anime and manga lovers there's a elitist opinion... there's hate on the Sword Art Online fans, Attack on Titan etc. I generally just stay out of it because haters will always hate. And most people will never change their opinion no matter what arguments are presented, so in the end... there's really no point... But it is nice seeing people who are so nice about it and reasonable.

...I'll stop rambling now.

Glad that someone brought this up! Honestly people who slander MLP because "Bronies are a cancer to the internet" or whatever other reason they may have are no different than haters and trolls.
Look, all of us on this site have 1 thing in common, we all love anime. Other people slander us for this interest because it's different, why should any of us slander anyone else for having a different interest.
Let me ask you this, Why do people poke fun of an interest that is perfectly okay and doesn't hurt anyone else? And if you have done this, Why did you do that?

This is pretty much what I was originally getting at. After writing the OP I rolled up my e-sleeves buckling down for an honourable war of words against gallant haters. Needless to say I got something different - there have been some amazing posts here and I hope that any individuals who hate the show or its fans gain something from them (I most certainly did). I suppose it's a bit unfortunate that said people didn't post, because the cynical side of me says they don't really want to have their views questioned and will just continue to lay them down wherever they get the chance. Most likely it can't be helped though.

Either way it's at least encouraging to see that there are lots of open-minded people here.

Not sure if anyone has brought this up already but I think the biggest problem with all this dumb fandom hate is because of cultural 'rules' and guidelines being so incredibly hard laced on what's ok for someone to like and what isn't

One case that happened with a young brony happened in North Carolina to nine year old Grayson Bruce. To cut a long story short he brought a backpack to school that was based off the pony Rainbow Dash. He was physically and verbally bullied for wearing the backpack and one day it got to be too much and he simply walked away from the school. When his mother confronted the principle over it the principle only said that Grayson shouldn't have brought that backpack to school.
.... Really?
No action taken against the bullies
No, only told that he shouldn't bring the backpack to school

If that's the kind of message that schools are sending in this case and cases like it then is it any surprise we have people being ridiculed for liking something that "Isn't made for them"?

After being homeschooled for awhile Grayson returned to school

I'm what I like to call a reasonable brony. I am a brony, but I do believe that a higher percentile of bronies, compared to other fandoms, act very obnoxious about it. For example, they will start talking about it when it holds no relevance to the current topic of discussion. However, I also realize that not all bronies are like this, and rather than judging bronies as a group, we should judge them as individuals.

I've nothing against mlp. But it just doesn't look like something I'd wanna watch, I wouldn't bash on people that watch it though. Everyone has their own preference, if you're a grown man that likes ponies... Have at it then.

Oh, we're sharing ponies? I saw the pony creator on Dolldivine last year, and eventually got around to checking it out. I like that the game has alot of personalization options. It's a very good-quality game, though it's somewhat difficult to match colors (due to how the color options work). To some extent, mine makes me think of Wesker from Resident Evil, because of the red eyes and slicked-back mane. A newer pony game is available at Dolldivine starting today, by the way. I made alot of avatars via various games from Dolldivine, Rinmarugames, and Azaleasdolls. I'll start using them as avatars for here soon enough. Probably. I'm very attached to my current CR avatar, though.

EDIT:

As is obvious, I went through with changing my avatar.

Hmm, I can see what you mean but to be honest people are like that with everything. I myself might easily drop a reference to 40K, a video game, a movie, a TV-series, an anime or just about anything else into a conversation about something else if my terrible sense of humour dictates that it's appropriate. If there's a need for MLP fans to "closet" themselves more than other fandoms and refrain from posting gifs, macros or videos of the show anywhere, it would only be out of fear of a tantrum that might be thrown by anti's. Not a very good reason, IMO.

I'm a grown ass man, 19 to be exact. My little 4 year old sisters absolutely love mpl, as they should, as the show was meant for them really. I come home from work in the morning ( i work overnight), and I'll sit down and watch it with them, i'm actually quite familiar with the characters now, because tbh, they're quite lovable and adorable, and the show itself is actually funny and teaches these kids that problems can be solved rationally and peacefully, usually pertaining to acts of kindness, maturity, intelligence, and or friendship in general. To anyone who bashes this show, just know, that you're probably just some anime weaboo with a stick up your ass, stfu you're too old to be doing this shit, and ps. nobody cares about your opinion chump. This show is for kids and for anyone watching with said little kids, its an educational show for children that can be stood by adults because its not completely or at all, fucking retarded like a lot of other morning cartoons like "Uncle Grandpa", or "Steven Universe" thats dont do anything but influence children to act dumb af and be dumb af.

I think it's probably the result of a constant clash between people saying "This is for little girls" and those saying "No seriously, this is good and you should like it with me." It's frustrating on both ends when both sides are trying to change the opinion on the other in regards to a TV show, so it just creates that disdain between the two.

I personally really enjoy the show. I love to "read between the lines" when it comes to anime and stuff, and My Little Pony is no different. Some of the dynamics between each of the characters are actually surprisingly deep and touching. My personal favorite example is Scootaloo, the pegasus that can't fly. The fact that her role model is the speedy and acrobatic Rainbow Dash makes her that much more of an interesting character.

Also, with the latest Dragonball Z -esque season finale, it's not too surprising that there be a comparison between MLP and anime.

The reason many brony fans say 'you should like it with me' is because most people who automatically jump to things like 'it's for little girls' and other rather lame arguments haven't watched the show at all. Or they watched one or two episodes out of the 91 episodes that exist. Quite honestly, I didn't much like the first two episodes when I first watched them. I still strongly dislike the third episode.. but episodes 4 and 5 are awesome. So watching one or two episodes isn't good enough for a solid opinion... It's like that with every show. Every show has a few episodes that someone personally doesn't like.

There's nothing wrong with being pushy about opinions about watching something. People force others to watch their favorite shows and movies all the time. My boyfriend forcing me to watch the first two episodes is how I at least got curious about the show. And now I'm a huge fan.

In the end, I can understand the 'No, seriously this is good and you should like it with me' pushy opinion over the 'this is for little girls' opinion.

It's not just for little girls, the voice actors seem to love their job, and they're not all kids themselves. And technically, Disney animated movies are for little girls most the time but that doesn't stop adults from liking them... many cartoons like Young Justice are for kids, and adults like them too... What makes MLP so different?
