I have this problem with my speech pattern where i sometimes add an "as/az" sound to the end of my sentences. It probably doesn't make sense to most of you but it's surprisingly common where i'm from. Anyways i made this thread looking for suggestions on how to get rid of a speech pattern. Additionally i wanted to know what kind of pattern you guys have/had. So share!

Wear a rubber band or two on your wrist and every time you catch yourself saying that at the end of the sentence, snap the rubber band. It's a form of positive punishment by where in you add the rubber band snapping your wrist (the positive part) to stop the behavior of saying as/az (the punishment). I use it all the time for different behaviors I want to stop and it works pretty well.
As far as my own little mannerisms, I swear a fuck of a lot.

That actually sounds like a pretty decent advise. I'm gonna give it a shot.

So is that kind of like an accent ? or would it sound like one ? have you tried learning a second language ? i feel like the process of saying different words that your brain isn't used to adding "as/az" at the end would help.

Adding a suffix to the end of your sentences is very common in anime. Don't worry so much about it.

Practice talking in front of a mirror. It could be anything, an argument that you'd wished you'd said better or even the speech you'll give when you win the Nobel Peace Prize (my personal favorite - My title for that speech is "I Did It To Prove The Bitches Wrong"). You'll see the shapes your mouth makes and you have real practice in correcting the mannerism you want to stop.

Well, first, don't hammer yourself too much.
If you watch any blooper reels of any show, you'll see even the main actors couldn't annunciate/pronounce simple words.
Sometimes they even spoke gibberish and totally out of these world.

Just fuck it. Be confident with everything.

I used to add things to my speech as a child.

My caretakers forced me to sit on my knees for hours.
Not really a punishment, but it got me to stop eventually.

don't loads of anime characters do something similar?? e.g. naruto says 'dattebayo.' Apparently, 'dat,' 'te' and 'yo' are sounds little kids (like elementary school age) add to the end of their sentences to personalize their speech.

It's common in Japan

I write and speak like I'm trying to write an SAT narrative. Oh high school. Go away.
My speech reflects who I'm talking to though, so I'll relax if the other person speaks really casually.

I've been told recently though, that my voice is really easy to recognize because I have a distinct way of speaking. I always sound like I'm nervous, like a person before giving a speech.
;-; I had no idea. How do I even correct something like that?

As someone who still has a speech impediment and has taken speech classes from Kindergarten to 11th, I just become used to it. It makes it a bit hard for people to understand me at times, but they get used to it if they're around me more and more.

As a person above me said, just be confident about it.

I used to repeat everything I said for reasons I won't go into.
But that was completely deliberate so when I wanted to stop, it was easy.
I can't help you.
