Stiyl from Index being 14 is...illogical. I can understand 17...im pretty lenient, but 14!? Shinji is 14. Besides...he's smoking a cigarette and sale of tobacco to minors is an offense. Guess Academy City laws are different...

Guess ill throw in another blatant one...she's 19.

In her defense, i think she was hospitalized for a while due to some illness.

That makes even more sense, and is this a guidebook that came with a DVD set or something?

Well, when I say guidebook, I mean I read about it from someone who has some type of official booklet that lists info about the characters, or whatnot. It said she was 18.

I'll try better, erm, evidence, and come back.

EDIT: I got it. The Gurren Lagann official anime guidebook states her age as 18 by the start of the series. Can't find a picture or link. Well, this:

http://gurrenlagann.wikia.com/wiki/User_blog:SpiralWarrior/Official_Guide_Book

I am fairly sure it was:

Simon 14 -> 17
Yoko 15 -> 18

Edit scratch that apparently it was 7 years... Hmmm... so 14->21 , 15->22

I am still fairly sure it was 15 for her though.

That is what I always heard, Yoko was 15.

I don't know how big the time skip or skips were though.

Fuuko from Clannad

She is fine for the beginning of series. I mean, what is she like 15-17? It's believable.

However assuming that the end of After Story is about 7-8 years after the beginning of the anime. That would put her at least at 22, yet she still looks like that at the very end.

So basically we don't know for certain.... Ugh... why hasn't Gainax (or guess Trigger now) stated what her actual age is? As long as it isn't under 16 then that makes sense.

No, if the official guidebook says so, then it is. Her age being 18, I mean.

Someone mentioned Irisviel from Fate/Zero and I have to mention it again, Irisviel genuinely disturbs me more than any legal-loli ever could. I mean I like her as a character and everything and I know that as a homoculus she was 'born' as an adult but by the events of Fate/Zero she was about 10 years old.... with an 8 year old daughter. What's worse is that her personality reflects her age. Naive, carefree, innocent.... I'm sorry I have difficulty seeing her as anything but a child.

And, then you have her daughter, who by the time of Fate/Stay Night is 18 or so, but still looks 8-10. Well, the reason behind it was explained, just some food for thought though.

I'm aware, I'm just saying that Irisviel is a whole lot more disturbing to me. Illya may look like a child but she's old enough to be fully capable of making her own decisions, Irisviel isn't. Legal lolis don't bother me cause the body is ultimately not important, however when you get someone who is genuinely a child and give them a body of an adult... that does disturb me.

Age doesn't equal maturity, though. You can see this in Iri and Ilya.

That's true, but I'd hold that being mature doesn't automatically give a person the life experience needed to make their own choices. In the Heaven's Feel route (where she gets most of her character arc) Illya showed signs that she did have this level reasoning and free thinking, offering advice, comforting people and her final decision at the end of the route showed that was fully capable of making her own decisions. Irisviel on the other hand always felt like a lost child to me. She never believed in what Kiritsugu believed but followed him and took on his ideals because she didn't really know what other way to live and wanted to remain with and support Kiritsugu.

Irisviel was still capable of making her own decisions and also the things you mentioned Ilya doing, for what I remember. Never was given the chance to fully make any, though.
