Wasn't that chapter 137 though? Because 138 had

You are absolutely correct. I accidentally pressed 8 instead of 7. I just read 138 and now I'm pissed at Chihaya.

Hopefully this will make Chihaya realize that she's in love with Taichi since he has always been by her side and since
she will see he isn't next to her and realize she likes him.

True! The deal with Arata, I believe, is that Chihaya isn't aware that admiration and love isn't the same thing. Arata introduced her to karuta and I believe that's one of the key factors around Arata, whereas Taichi has been by her side since FOREVER and their relationship has been more emphasised/intimate. I'll be pissed if Taichi doesn't get the ending he deserves.

Taichi doesnt deserve anything special for being Chihaya's friend. He is right next to Chihaya for the longest time and is too much of a coward to tell her his feelings. Also he didnt immediately tell Chihaya about Arata trying to reach her. It looked like he only did so after it looked like Chihaya might find a way to contact him on her own. Taichi gets angry when Arata tries to talk to Chihaya although he himself has a ton of time with her alone. He is a bit too self-absorbed and manipulative. Also why is it any of Taichi's business if Arata tries to talk to Chihaya? It isnt as if Arata is trying to sabotage Taichi like Taichi seems to be doing to Arata. Arata just wants to make his feelings known. The way it should be is between you and the person you like.

Arata was away for family reasons and dealing with his grandfathers death later. He wants to go back to Tokyo because he wants to be near Chihaya. It seems he has always loved her and showed her what his deepest passion was real early in life. Basically he bares his soul to her. Pretty strong to do that. Arata views both Taichi and Chihaya as friends. Even after Taichi was such an ass to him when they were children. It seems like he is the much more mature option of the two really. Also I think it shows more feeling to still want to be near someone even though they haven't been around.

Taichi hasnt committed to anything until it looks like he will fail. That goes for Caruta, friendship, and romance. He really annoys me sometimes. I think his parents warped him a bit.

Nevertheless both of them are on-the-whole decent guys. Chihaya has a tough decision to make. Although if Arata moves to Tokyo then people will get to see a more even character development between the three. Some people like Taichi because he is around her and has seen her more often. Perhaps that will change when things even out if the mangaka lets them all be together in Tokyo for some time.

I see. Once you read them, you're opinion about Taichi might change just a itsy bitsy bit.

He is right next to Chihaya for the longest time and is too much of a coward to tell her his feelings.

P.S. There's no translation for Chapter 137 and 138. I just read the raw.

Saying he's a coward is a bit much seeing as Chihaya's his best friend, he might be fearing that he'll lose that friendship. It took Arata a hell of a long time to speak up too.

Um, it's a love-triangle, of course he's not going to be bouncing happily when Arata shows up.

Are you neglecting the fact that it's the same issue for Taichi as well? The "has always loved her and showed her what his deepest passion was real early in life"-part. Not to forget mentioning that Arata pushed both of them away, causing Chihaya to worry about it for oh-so long.

Taichi may have been an ass during elementary school, but he still saw/sees Arata as a friend. His friendship, both thoughts and feelings, towards Arata is well shown in the manga and the other way around. I don't think Arata harbours any hard feelings of what Taichi did to him and in the most recent chapters you can see that Taichi regrets his behaviours.

In my case, that's not it. If you're to look at the manga objectively, although both sides have had their fair share of "romance", Taichi and Chihaya's relationship and overall development has been far more emphasised than her relationship with Arata. Sure, that might change later on, but their relationship has progressed quite a lot.

I'm not trying to sound rude in any way btw But Arata isn't a saint, none of them are. The answer for whom Chihaya ends up with is possibly already answered in one of the karuta cards - if that's the route the mangaka will take at the end, so.. it'll be interesting to see.

I just started watching the anime (I don't really care about spoilers) but when Kana started explaining the poems to Chihaya I think she said something like that the Chihayafuru card meant like a bright red love that grows stronger because you are separated so far away. So if foreshadowing means anything, that seems to point toward Arata.

I am inclined a bit as a male viewer to side with Arata for the simple reason that Taichi seems to fall into the typical shoujo male lead archetype a bit. (Super handsome, great at sports, great at studying, gets jealous) There are few shoujos that stray from this archetype, mostly stuff by CLAMP. Nozaki-kun was a great one though, I liked all the male characters in that one equally.
