I am inclined a bit as a male viewer to side with Arata for the simple reason that Taichi seems to fall into the typical shoujo male lead archetype a bit. (Super handsome, great at sports, great at studying, gets jealous)

You're right that he fits the bill for a standard male lead for a shoujo manga, however, Chihayafuru does not idolize him in the same way that other standard shoujo manga do. I've been a Taichi fan since the first episodes mostly because of his snobbery as a child. He was a terribly immature kid back then but he grew up fast. I can see a lot of myself in him. Now he's a genuine guy, and we can see that now and appreciate it more than the average shoujo manga where the main male lead is placed on a pedestal of perfection right from the get-go and only occasionally does the story allude to his conveniently painful past.

I'm pretty sure shell wind up with Taichi but her and Arata will become the king and queen and stay friends. I want him to be with her though since he's had such a hard life compared to Taichi.

I dunno who she'll end up with .....cause its kind of ambiguous right now. But its leaning more towards Arata. I would hate it though if she ends up with Taichi.

Taichi and Arata are both kind of standard. Hot and cold personalities. Taichi burns with all these emotions for Chihaya to soothe. Arata is the distant ice for Chihaya to melt.

Chihaya is also standard. She's the arrow we want to see fly true toward her goal, and it upsets us whenever the wind knocks her off her mark.

It's a good execution of those roles, though. I'm definitely a Taichi fan, because it makes me laugh when characters try hard and lose to bad luck, or just end up frustrated. C'mon, throw him a bone...! Or don't, because it's hilarious!

Sort of against Arata ever since his last meeting with Taichi, where Taichi says some stuff and tries to act tough while Arata said nothing and looked around for Chihaya like a dork. C'mon, man, talk to the guy in front of you.

But they're both fine archetypes. It's just the little nuances that sway me.
